Hmmm, okay what's that...??

See I just opened the lappy and did the logging on thing and then went to do ..stuff.. and I brushed and slipped a folder from its lodgings to somewhere else. Ack, stoopid trackpad. So I open the folder and cut and paste it back where it lived. Then just for the hell of it I have a quick scan through the contents.

Now this folder is 'My Stories' file. Everything I've written, started, Blogged, had edited, it's all there. But then I come across this little file. I don't recognise it at all 19kb Oct 2010 at 1.20 am.... so I open it and...

Just wanted to leave a little note here that the projects I'm involved in will be a bit slower for awhile. Specifically stories I'm co-authoring with Ashly (DarkKitten) or editing for her might be a bit backlogged, as I'm currently recovering from oral surgery. Every day is hit or miss. Like tonight I felt great, and helped her edit Punisher 1 in no time :-) But last night and this morning I could barely see straight. :-)

I've got some good painkillers though, and HOPEFULLY recovery should be pretty quick, but I just wanted to post a li'l update that I'm not being lazy or anything. :-P So look for ESWS some time next week maybe, and the rest I'll try not to slow Ashly down too much on :-)

OK, I'm going to be talking about ways that sex changes can/could happen in a story. I'm not saying that this is how you have to do things, but my goal is to look at the actual biology/genetics and try to keep things compatible with reality to the greatest extent possible.

This is what's called a "hard" science fiction approach. You take the way reality works (to the best of our knowledge) and make the minimum changes required to achieve your story's goals.

So, since the first thing you need to know when writing about anything is how things are in the real world. This prevents you from making errors like giving Switzerland a seacoast.

Is Something Going On Here?

I had sort of noticed this phenomenon in that my most recently posted story had only received a fraction of the hits which I would have normally expected, but I shrugged my shoulders and put it down to the fact that I had just not connected with the audience or I had a bad authorial day when I wrote it.

Then another author bemoaned the same effect on her latest posting and wondered if it was to do with the recent up-grade. So..I went investigating, a la Nancy Drew or Susie and Jeffrey, but more cerebrally and without the mayhem.

Due to the number of inquiries I've been getting as of late...

A number of people have been asking about writing characters that have already been chosen. Sadly, I have to tell them that those particular ones are unavailable at this time, because other people have chosen them.

There are a number of authors/potential authors that have chosen characters and after a number of months, and in some cases over a year, have posted nothing.

I wanted to introduce myself with a blog. My name is Aoife (ee-fuh), or at the very least it is here, lol, I've been a long time lurker, only recently deciding to come out of hiding and finally connect with you awesome people. Like most of you I am always having these creative muses that take over my mind from time to time, and try as I might, they eventually build up and explode out of my mind like a volcano.

Hi Everybody,
I know i posted this before, but it's been a few months, and I felt it time to re-post this note.

Some of you may know, but other's probably don't, that I've been making book covers for not only my own, but other people's stories.

I make these using Stock Art purchased or found freely (royalty free archives) off the internet.

What Lies Beyond Twilight was done a while back, and is a little cluttered, but has nice pop/visual and I decided it needed showing.

Wanna go Wyld? Take 2

Hey everybody, my Wyld Universe is officially open! And yes, this is my second blog about it, but the first got pushed off the front page so fast hardly anybody saw it. :( But I found a message in my inbox this morning expressing interest (How cool is that?!) but not knowing the universe is open and figured I should re-post.

getting into hard territory

As I had said before, my latest story has turned into something a lot more autobiographical than I had originally intended. So that creates a problem. How the heck am I going to get this poor girl out of this mess? And will it be at all interesting to anybody but me?

Online translators are rarely perfect when they translate sentences from one language to another, but most times they at least approximate what you intended to say.   Sometimes, though, they don't even come close.

Aunt Andrea sent a comment recently and she said, in Filipino, "pumalya inyo."

Anyway, I talked to Tintin, my assistant here, and asked what that meant.   She said it meant, "your thing is broken."

After nodding off in the chair I started a short story, and two hours later I'd done two thousand words - it sort of wrote itself once I got started - my stuff seems to.

I would like to get some feed back as to whether or not I should just give up on it, and focus on other stuff instead. I also don't want to keep posting it and taking up space that better writers could use.

Help and Support

I just sent Erin a question regarding the February Short Story contest. It had to do with word counts. I was wondering if there is anyone other then Erin to ask (actually bother) with questions like this about the site operation or problems. I know that there is a group of folks here who help run the site, but I do not know who they are.

Perhaps something can be done to identify them so questions and concerns can be sent to them and not Erin, especially if they are not critical issues.

I know what happened, sometimes when I hit "comment" I accidentally hit the Add to Favorites tag. I really do need better glasses! How can I clear out my favorites file so I can add the stories I really love? If I keep adding favorites, will the old ones be pushed out of sight?

About my story "Our State Fair"

Folks who've read my recent story "Our State Fair" may be interested in some of the background information that I, uh, fictionalized. As one commenter on my story has noted, a uterine transplant was apparently performed in Turkey last year. The medical communities of several countries are, in fact, vying to be the first to perform viable uterine transplants; I thought I'd make it easy on them by having the transplant occur between siblings. But now let's talk about food ...

We are down one writer for Reckoning.

One of the original 5 has decided that, due to issues in her real life, she cannot continue as a contributor to the Reckoning storyline. We will miss her, but we intend to continue. I'm sure we all wish her well as she tries to get her life in order, and we thank her for her participation thus far in the story.

We will continue using her character and powers, but her part will become more like that of an NPC in a role playing game. We all want to thank all of you who are sticking with us to see how this experiments turns out, and we thank you for your comments.
