Healing Both Mind and Body

Healing Both Mind and Body

by Torrey Grover

Our heroine tells a story of violent abuse, recovery, and reconciliation, and finally looks forward to her future. This story combines real events, ideas, and people (names altered) with imagination to create a work of transgender fiction. If the abuse seems unrealistic to you, google 'John Daniel Kingston' plus beating, and read the newspaper accounts.

Killing off characters

Killing Billie off in Bike is the hardest thing I've had to do and it's left me feeling like I've had a real bereavement, I've been flat and depressed since - so why did I do it?

At times I've allowed the fantasy stuff take us away from the realities of life. Cathy's had to deal with all sorts of low-lifes and some quite absurd incidents too. At times the story has been humorous, verging on comedic; at others it's been more like a thriller and just to let you get your breath back I slip in a couple of domestic bliss storylines.

Anyone with a Nook?

I was wondering. I have numerous .doc files and .pdf files on my computer and I just recently got a Nook Color. It takes ages for the doc files to load in the reader and my issue with the pdf files is that it is unwieldy to read as is. Certainly neither are as easy to handle as my ebooks, which are all epub files. My question is...are there any good free pdf/doc to epub converters that anyone here could recommend? Thanks in advance. :)

Alone: The Series!

I swore I would never write a serial. After posting my first novel in parts just as soon as I finished them, I decided that method just didn't work for me. If I wanted to go back and changed something due to the way the story was currently developing, whoops sorry! So what am I doing? Writing Alone. Honestly I never intended on there being any additional chapters, but a few of the comments got me thinking. My muse whispered seductive clues in my ear and the next I know there's an 'Alone2' and an 'Alone3' I might add.

Recruiting Authors

I'm recruiting authors to join my new universe, the DarkRealms. I've already written one story for it, Life is Precious. Maggie and Lilith have both contributed as well, both their stories are still currently on the front page for those of you who haven't read them. So if anyone is interested in writing a story, PM me and pitch me an idea :)

UK Television series

I spotted the following on TVGuide.co.uk

My Transsexual Summer

New series. Seven transgender men and women convene at a summer retreat, where they share a mutual understanding of what it is like to be a transsexual in Britain today. In various stages of gender reassignment, members of the group share experiences and provide an insight into the problems and prejudices they face in everyday life, and build the support network they need to reach their long-term goals

For romantics everywhere

For romantics everywhere

This has no transgender element in the story. However, for all of the visitors to this site who love a good romantic story this is for you.

He has arranged it all just to propose, so click the link and shed a tear of happiness.

Perhaps one of the writers on this site could use something similar in one of their stories.

right place, right time

You ever get the impression that you are in a place for a higher purpose? Well, in my case, it was more than an impression, it was like getting a smack on the head. See, while I was in Slave Lake, one of the girls I was working with told me her son just came out to her as trans, and she had been doing research into it, when along comes me, doing my RLT. I talked with her awhile, and then gave her my e-mail addy so she can get a hold of me if she needs to. The rest of my time there was okay, but that little moment was just ... special.

Transient global amnesia

I saw this article in today's Guardian, which has possible implications for scientists understanding and ultimately treating Alzheimers.

It has absolutely nothing to do with transgenderism but does have an amazing picture of a fluorescent micrograph of a mouse's hippocampus (part of the brain).

The Definition of Insanity

A giant redwood fell over the other day and was featured on the daily evening news. It seems this tree was old. Older than me. I wonder what it figured out about life that caused it to uproot itself.

After I posted my last story I asked myself . . . What the Fuck?

You see -- I never quite get around the idea that my next story will be my best.

I never see the rejection coming until Lucy's pulled that GD ball out from under my swingin' boot.

Alone 2: The Walk

What if you were the last human on Earth? A sequel to Alone.

Alone 2: The walk

Walking down those steps, of the little house that'd been my sanctuary, was one of the hardest things I'd ever done. It didn't help that I was naked as the day I was born either. The aliens didn’t wear clothes although Doc wondered if that would change when the weather got colder. Scouts had seen some wearing protective garments when it made sense to. They simply didn't seem to care to be clothed otherwise.

"He wants me to come down to his studio tomorrow and record a demo CD."
"Oh my gosh Brett, that's great!" she exclaimed while wrapping me in a hug. "Now do you believe that you’re as good as we said?"
"Come on," she said while grabbing my arm and turning towards the door. "Let's go tell your parents."
"There's only one problem," I told them, not sure how to broach the subject.
"What?" Emily asked cautiously.
"Well," I responded, reluctant to open this topic with my friends. "He thinks I'm a girl."

And thus began the story of...

I am lucky, as most of my stories have a good number of comments and kudos.

However, some very good stories by brilliant authors don’t get many of either and that’s a shame. I am sure that some writers are put off by the apparent lack of response when just a few more comments or kudos might give them the encouragement to continue.

The reasons are probably many, a few of which are the very success of the site, the sheer number of stories to read and the lack of time to read everything.

Aleksa Lundberg, Swedish Transgender Actress, Mourns Forced Steriliztion

Saw this article. Thought it would be of interest to this community. See link below. This seems to be truly harsh and cruel. I can see no justification for it. I wonder if anyone here can justify this or support it.

The Madonna Of The Future: 3. No Beating The Classics

She gave me a suspicious look. "You're not going to enter that goofy pageant, are you?"

I blushed. "Um, sure. Why not?"

Susan huffed loudly. "Why not? In the first place, it's degrading. I can't believe the school even does such a thing, in this day and age. In the second place, you can't win. And in the third place, you are not that kind of girl."

day 1 in Slave Lake

Well, I had my first shift here in Slave Lake, and it went okay. the hotel is nice, but I dont expect to have a lot of time to look around the town between work and sleep. Interesingly, one of the staff here has a son who just recently came out to them as trans, and has been doing some research on it, so she wanted to ask me how I'm finding it. My responce is "so far, so good." The hotel has a internet kiosk that charges by the hour, so I can check in on you wonderful people, so behave!

Progress

Okay... lots of progress today. I wrote 13 pages today on the Tegan story I have been working on. So it is at 150 pages and 52+k words. Yay! That means I can soon get to other things in the near future. And once the edits are done I can get to selling it. Whee! Here's hoping that it goes well.

TYFA Is A Wonderful Organization

Andrea James posted a link for a wonderful organization called Trans Youth Family Allies on her page today. I have contacted them to see if I can volunteer. I have seen and read stories here locally about parents who were totally clueless about what it means for their child to be Trans. One case resulted in suicide from being bullied and rejected by their mother. I tried to get our Trans support group involved in this worthy cause, but they didn't want to "Rock the boat" and chose not get involved.

Well it has been six months since the divorce and it is my fifth day at my new school being 10 and the new kid, its sometimes hard to fit in.
