Brenda managed to strike Nick, but it barely phased him. She grabs her helmet and put it back on. This freak was pissing her off and she knew she was going have to resort to dirty tricks if she was going to be able to kill him. She tosses down some smoke bombs and swing her sword towards him.

Nick was a little surprised when the woman he was fighting tossed down some smoke pellets. However, he is barely nicked when her sword comes out of the smoke and cut across his chest, leaving behind a red mark. An amusing look appears on his face as he retreats backwards.

This story has a slight sardonic twist in the second chapter that plays out into the third that I think most readers will pick up on. “Stuart? Bring the barrier down at the graveyard, please. The vampires have been dealt with and the portal’s gone.”

“Then what…”

“David’s trapped inside.”

“Oh, alright. Miss Ephemeris said she’d meet you at the school.”

“Why?”

“She has something for you. You may need it if you’re going to, er, do battle with…”

“Something came through?”

“You could say that. A sort of vine thing, with teeth. It’s spreading through the whole school. Nick set off the fire alarm, but there may be some people still trapped inside.”

"Granny, Granny, please tell us a story! Pretty please, Granny!" said nine year old Linda as she sat on the floor with her twin sister Julia.

They had on matching sky blue blouses and navy blue skorts which each had embroidered a red rose with green stem and leaves as well as the first initial of their name. They both looked precious in their white knee socks and black Mary Jane's. Each of them looked intently at me with their deep blue eyes, resisting the temptation to twirl their long blonde hair in their fingers, since they loved my stories.

Before I could answer, Julia burst out, "Tell us a new one, Granny! Pretty, please!"

To say that my sympathy level was withering like a daisy in the Sahara would have been a gross understatement. More like I was thinking that I should throttle my utterly clueless mother, then go hunt down the feckless bigot I got as a father, armed with a two dollar whore sporting an incurable itch.

Grace has trouble in the home, but how did it all go so wrong so quickly? I hope you find this addition to the String of Pearls satisfactory.
