I'm going to use this as a place to discuss search, how to use it and what people want to use it for.
A few things:
When you use multiple words in a search, the default is to perform an OR search. Searching for curly perm will turn up both curly and perm and will list first results that have both terms.
Searches are case insensitive. Perm, perm and PERM are all the same.
Searches are made for roots, so perm, perms, permed and perming are all the same. But permanent is a different word.
A plus symbol in front of a word in a search means that word is required so curly +perm will return only results that have some form of perm in them and will prefer ones that have curly, also. +curly +perm results must have both words though not necessarily next to each other.
A minus sign means do not include the following word in results so perm -curly would return results that matched perm but would not include ones that also had curly.
Quotes around a phrase will search for an exact match, but will still ignore case. "curly perm" will match Curly perm and lots of variations but both words in that order must be present.
Comments are regarded by search as part of the post.
The sidebars allow you to restrict searches to posts that match various criteria, like type of post, audience rating or authorship. At the top right is a sidebar that allows you to control how the search indexer orders results.
When we upgrade to Drupal 7, this will all change a bit but not drastically.
You can use this thread to ask questions and make comments about search.
Guy Tregaskis stepped onto the porch of the large suburban home and paused for a moment to feel its force. He considered that all homes with any age carry a force, made up of the people who built it and the people who occupied it, and perhaps even those who occupied the land before the house was built.
Steven Brown has a rough time, wanting to be a girl and hiding it from his angry abusive father. But when Steven gets a chance to express his hidden side through a fantastic opportunity, things change, including himself.

She smiled brightly, her beautiful white teeth flashing as they peeked of out of the curtains of her dancing red lips.
“You would be regressed to the age of a newborn and then live the life of a girl from birth until about age 18, at which point you would have fulfilled the requirements of the will. To make up for your advanced age, each day of your life would be equivalent to seven days, so each day you will get one week older.
She smiled at Darrius, masking her own apprehension. "C'mon then," she said as she lunged at him with the sword, only to watch his terrible daggers easily deflect the rapier. "Or perhaps I need a little more weight?" She twirled the sword as it grew into a large flat-bladed gladius.
I'm a small kid. I couldn't help it, it was how I was born! On top of that, I was 11 and hadn't hit puberty yet. I hated to admit it, but I really looked like a girl. In fact, you could probably call me a girl. I only had long blond hair about 2 inches down my shoulders, I only had one friend, who was a girl, and I had only girl family. My father died in a car crash while my mom was pregnant with me. In his honor, I was named after him. Salem. But that's beside the point. I need to get to the story.
Seeing the unmistakable outline of my best friend’s rear end at the at the baggage claim, I couldn’t hold back my excitement any longer.
MARISA! I screamed. She turned around and looked, embarrassed, then smiled. KAT! We ran to each other and hugged. I was crying, so relieved that she was finally here. She was crying too, and we were both so excited to see each other. We were making a total scene, and we didn’t care. The only person in the world to me right then was my friend.
She finished the story, and turned off the computer with a sigh. It had been a good story, having some of her favorite elements. Her favorite stories were about girls who even though they had been forced to begin life as boys, had taken the steps needed to live as their true selves.
“She was so brave....” she sighed to herself, thinking again of the heroine of the story she’d just finished. “..She had to overcome so much, and yet she didn’t let that stop her.”
I know, I know, all that wait, and it’s a short, sad chapter. Sorry! I have my reasons! This gets a bit nasty, so I bumped up the rating to mature. Do kids really read these?
Candy was starting to realize there were too many windows in her room. The old fashioned regular glass windows really did almost nothing to stop the cold. Her room was so cold, her fingers hurt!
The crowds were restless. We had had a minutes silence to remember the name of our beloved chairman Alf Battersby. It was fitting that we were at home playing Weatherfield only the day after Alf had dropped dead of a heart attack...

Chapter 59 After dinner chat
Sally looked a little sad when I’d recognized James mobile number on my missed calls.
I didn’t feel inclined to call him back straight away because dinner was ready. So to make Sally more comfortable I said I hadn’t heard from him for a few days and it could wait.
I wanted to do this so that she felt better. She was becoming part of our family and we were becoming very close.
There was a small stack of presents on the table that we made Mom open before I had to go get ready, and by the time I stepped into Sarah's room to put on the wig I knew that she had already had a great day.
My song was totally going to make it the best birthday ever.
Melanie Ezell's big closet ultimate writer's challenge — The Diary of Hortense
Ding dong the witch is dead? Not quite like that.
There's this delivery guy at the door with a package from some solicitors I've never heard of. Hortense Willikins? Wasn't she that old lady who lived down the road? And why on Earth would she leave me an empty journal in her will?
My name is Chris Smith, I am 23 years old and live in New York; I was open mouthed in surprise as I read the letter from “Abercrombie, James and Prendergast”. An aunt I scarcely remembered had passed away and I was sole heir of her will. I had just lost my job and was down to my last couple of hundred dollars. I had to travel to Los Angeles to visit the attorney’s offices. I had to be out my rented furnished apartment in a few days and I went down to the local Greyhound Bus office and booked a ticket for the day after tomorrow.

This little piece was 'inspired' by the movie of the same name. Actually I'm not really sure inspired is the word I'm looking for as I couldn't finish watching it. Written several years ago I still think it's one of my best little short stories along with Heat Wave
