The phone rang in our suite waking both Mom and me.

“Hello,” Mom said.

“Oh my God, have you seen the news?”

It was Gloria, and she was beside herself.

“What news?”

I’m sitting up a little more and trying to clean my face and get the snuffles from crying out when my mom comes in.

I hurt looking at her. Well sorta looking at her if my head wasn’t hanging down so low.

She looks tired, like scared, hurt, worried and stressed out with no sleep tired.

My heart does a little hurting mewl because she doesn’t deserve that, not after everything she’s been through.

See, mom’s a breast cancer survivor.

Jake and his friends looked forward to play Dragons Blood Online during their monthly LAN gaming session. It was going to be a big night now that their characters had finally all reached level 60. It had been a pretty quiet day, and I was taking advantage of it to get some paperwork done when I got The Call.

Mom looks at me as dad’s passing her a towel. “You two are not hooking up you got that! Dylan you’re not going through three girls this summer.”

“Mom!”

I turn red and Shy nods and gets a plate of whatever and takes me by the hand.

“Sure…let’s go where we can just sit and talk.”

We leave but pass Kaylee who’s biting her lip and heading towards the house for her own breakfast.

Hoo-boy I can feel mom revving up even as Shy’s leading me away.
