The first post is like falling in love... I hope what I say will help you feel attracted to me and will make you come again to see if I have said anything new. I have a great challenge to attract you only with my words. I am sure an image would have been nice, moving images might have been better and even better would have been a three dimensional presence.

A few days ago I posted several comments on stories here. Today, I wanted to check what I'd said about one of them, but my comment had disappeared. When I checked further, it seemed that all my recent comments had vanished.

Was it something I said, or has the database had "issues"?

Best wishes, Andrea.

The longest time for a page request I've seen in the new software, other than during a file upload, was 6 seconds, normally it is 2 or less. Compared to an average of 12 to 18 seconds and as high as 30+ for OTS. And I don't even have caching or the other speed enhancements turned on. :)

Big Closet responds very slowly

Forums:

I've mentioned this before, but today I dropped in and it took about 30 seconds for Big Closet's front page to load for me. I have the options on the home page pared back, and it makes little difference. Going between pages here is almost as slow loading as the front page. As I understand it, Erin has up to date hardware and software for this site. Maybe you've got hackers.

Finding a story

Forums:

I've tried everything else, so I'll try this.   I'm looking for a story I read late last year, maybe in December.   It was about a researcher who tried his own experiment in order to cure his cancer.   Needless to say on this site, he becomes a girl while being cured.   After finally getting away from the government agency that originally employed him, she ends up a family doctor in a small town in Tennessee, or in that area.   Sound familiar to anybody?   It may not have been a newly posted story, I may have found it during a search, or by reading another's posted comments.   Any help greatly appreciated.

Discovered - A Wonderful Author

Author:

I was scoping out my favorite TG comics earlier this evening, one of which is Jade Gordon's Lean On Me. I've always found her artwork to be lovely, and since she's currently needing some commissions, I thought it might be time for me to get some drawings for my K&K series. Following some links in an effort to see if I could afford her, I went to Lulu.com to look at the book cover she did for a story titled Fool For Love by Lisa Lees. The Lulu page has a link to a preview of this story, and I was captivated immediately. This woman can write!

The funny part was Wen was playing a male character and her husband playing a female. People was making the mistake that he really was female and he couldn't convince them otherwise! Is shifting the narrator's voice cheating?

Forums:

The story I just finished used a technique that happens around here fairly frequently, a first person narrator telling the story in the past tense. And as with many pieces, my narrator starts out male and becomes female at the end. But as I was editing it, I noticed that the voice of my narrator starts out from the point of view of a man, and gradually shifts to that of a woman. I didn't want to do a rewrite, since it seemed to work, but isn't it cheating, in a way? If the story is being told in past tense, shouldn't that mean my main character has already become a woman before she started telling her story, so starting it out with a masculine tone to the narration is wrong?

Just Like All the Other Chickens

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Variety adds spice to life. When I was in high school, I once had a summer job working on my uncle's farm. One of my chores was to take care of the chickens. I quickly noticed this one chicken walking around all by itself outside the fence of the chicken coop. I asked my uncle about this and he said watch. He picked up the chicken and carried it inside the coop and set it down. It squatted down on the ground while all the other chickens ran up to it and started pecking it in the head. My uncle then picked it up and carried it outside and let it go. He told me that if he left it in the coop the other chickens would kill it. I've thought much on this over the years, and the only conclusion I could come to, was that the other chickens felt threatened by that one chicken because it was somehow different than they were.

Challenging the cliches

Forums:

All genres of fiction have their stereotypes, whether it's the hard-boiled detective, a roguish/whorish character with a heart of gold, or the orphan with the royal blood/special power/great singing voice. TG Fiction easily has as many, if not more, cliches as any other genre, and while there's nothing wrong with happily dwelling in them, challenging the cliches or using them in subtle and different ways can be a lot of fun as well.
