I always remember my twenty-first birthday. It was a good day and I was happier than I had been for much of my life. I was born as Aiden Ademir Gomez in Barranquilla, Colombia, in the new year of the twenty-first century, or the last year of the twentieth, depending on your point of view and arithmetic.

Michelle arose before Sam. She went down into the kitchen in her kimono and slippers to get them both some tea and to start breakfast. Sam had offered to cook, but Michelle insisted. It gave her a warm feeling cooking for her man. She had just got the eggs and bacon out ready to cook when Sam sat down freshly showered holding the letter.

"You open it Sam, I don't want anything to do with that monster."

"It is like this, Ronnie… I'm trans."

Ronnie cursed under her breath.

“I wondered what it was that you were hiding.”

"I'm sorry, but when you told me about your dogs, I sort of freaked out."

"That's understandable, but they won't touch you."

Sitting at the vanity in her room, Erica watched the mirror while her aunt finished braiding her hair into two pigtails that came down the side of her head. The costume had been dropped off the day before and fit perfectly. With the shoes, dress, red braided pigtails, and a picnic basket with a small stuffed Cairn Terrier sticking up out of one side, she was the perfect image of Dorothy Gale. Watching her aunt tying off the blue ribbons at the end of her pigtails, she smiled at the reflection, still happy to see her young mother reflected back at her, even through her costume.

Well I can tell you, Sunday was not the best day I have ever had. All I could think of through lunch at Grandma’s was this stupid situation me and Drew had gotten into. Nata has been teaching her the basics and gave her several books to read. Most of them were from current new-age authors. Nata said she could learn the basics from the books she had to buy. Leland thought it was a good idea that she learned how to use her magical nature.
