The next story I'm going to share with you was told to me by Junior Scoutmaster Emma Jeanette Pierce. I'm also going to confess I went a little overboard with the name of the story. I don't apologize for it at all though, mostly because it conjures up perfectly the vibe I want to capture with these stories.

I pull the shoes out of the closet and ask, “So who d’you think the greatest
catch in your class is? Maybe I can help you snag him.”
She pauses in thought for a minute. She’s obviously struggling with what she
wants to say. “You have to promise me you won’t tell ANYONE this,”
Caitlin says emphatically. “I’m only telling you this because you’re my best
friend and I know I can trust you.”
“You can trust me,” I tell her with sincerity, “after all I’ll be gone in a
couple of months.”
“Okay,” she leans close and whispers. “But you can’t tell anyone–especially
your cousin. I’d just die if she found out. If I could pick any guy to be
my boyfriend,” she pauses and looks furtively around, “it would be Chris Quinn.
God, I get wet every time I even think of that boy.”
When I was in college, I struggled with my identity...I thought that the songs which I borrowed for this piece below were written just for me...I feared what it would be like if I ever came out to my family...I never did...and I wept

The Mâitre d’ holds the chair for Mom, Tony for Janet, and Jack for me. I sit the way I have been practicing, noting a number of others, men and women, in the room watching our procession and seating. Our waiter comes to the table about a minute later and asks if we would like any refreshments before the meal. Mom and Janet each take a glass of red wine.
I thank him, but say I will be just fine with water until the meal. Tony asks for a beer and Janet’s eyes look at Mom and myself then go toward the ceiling. Jack declines also saying water is fine. The waiter scurries off between the tables reminding me of a mouse navigating a maze. Jack leans over and whispers,” I hope you don’t mind but I don’t want anything to drink tonight.”
I lean over to his ear and whisper back, “Not at all. I seldom do myself. Thank you for being so considerate.”
“I wonder if 'Tranny-Granny will be here tonight.” said Jessica as they made their way through the crowd.
“Odds are she will. She's never missed a night to my knowledge. Every time I've been here, she just sits at her stool from open to close. It's sad, like she's waiting for someone.” Katie answered. “But I hope I'm out and about at her age.”
“Who is 'Tranny-Granny.'” asked Jenny looking puzzled.
“She's this crazy old cross-dresser, and when I say old we're talking ninety, give or take a year.”

Mom grabs the book from my hands and puts it on her own head. She gets up and walks to the doorway, does a complete spin before returning to the chair and sitting once more. She takes the book off her head and hands it to me.
“When you can get up, walk to the door and back, and then sit again without dislodging the book, call me to watch.”
“Okay…, I mean…, yes, Mom. I wish you had started teaching me this stuff ten years ago.”
“Don’t be silly. Boys don’t flow. Girls do.” Mom gets up and leaves the room as I watch her ‘flow’ from the chair and out into the entryway, listening to her ‘flow’ up the stairs. I can even hear it in her footsteps. I’m in more trouble than I could ever have imagined.
‘Fine thanks. Look, I want to thank you for your support at the TV station.’
‘That’s all right, honey. You have to know what is going on in these situations. Mike is a slime ball and he needed taking down a peg or two. You did me a favour, actually.’
It wasn’t until I saw the shocked look on Mom’s face that I realized I was changing in front of two women. But I think she was more shocked to learn that I had been wearing panties to school!
Heather sat on her stool still deep in thought. The quiet hours at the club were therapeutic for her. Everyone on the full-time staff knew about her condition, so there was no need to hide it here in her sanctuary. She had a couple of weremen on staff, like the large framed front door bouncer, Eric. He went by Erica during the day, but liked to hulk up most if not every night. She didn't have any werewomen on the staff, better to make pack sisters out of them than employees.

Mom adds, “Yes, we are. You make a pretty good young lady, Lucy Ann. Don’t you ever let anyone tell you different. Your great, great grandmother would be proud you have her name.”
