his sister's home and begins caring for her family. Thank you to everyone who
commented on the first installment. I do love knowing that you are all well and
hearing from you. I appreciate your support. A word or warning, though - I do try
to explore the feelings, emotions and motivations of my characters and that
requires using words.
The drive home was quiet, the tension in the car palpable. David leaned against the window, watching the familiar streets roll by, but his thoughts were far from comforting. The doctor’s words echoed in his mind, and though his parents tried to keep the conversation light, the weight of the unknown loomed over them.

As they emerge to find the enigmatic town of Sælicbrook—a nexus of realms and magic—Lydia is transformed into her destiny as its guardian. But as the cosmic entity Nyarlathotep stirs, intent on unraveling the threads of reality, will Lydia's newfound power be enough to stand against an eldritch horror bent on devouring all? The battle for existence looms, and only the guardians of Sælicbrook can safeguard the world from the impending darkness. Will they triumph, or will everything they know be consumed by the infinite appetite of the Crawling Chaos?
I had a dream I was locked in a room with four sets of hands grabbing at me. No bodies, just the hands as they traced around my body, I wanted to kick and scream but couldn’t. I could only feel eerie sensations all over. I thrashed about and found myself on the floor of my room wrapped in my comforter and my hair all in my face.
Kaelyn was just trying to fill her belly, but she got a lot more than she bargained for when she decided to save the life of a Faerie.
I looked down at the ornate box in my hands a little self-consciously. “Yes. She said it was a gift, but why would you give me such a thing? It must be extremely valuable.”
Naiya and her fellow Naethari have killed Edward Pierce and gained their freedom, but there are others who want the Naethari for their own ends. Can they keep their hard-won freedom?
Her answer was to laugh, stick out her tongue, and say, “I learned from the best, Sis.”
I waited for the rejection, but she swallowed and smiled and asked if the plain was much different. I told her that they were just “fishier” and picked out a small one for her to try, taking one for myself and showing her that these are eaten straight from the shell. She made a face when it was in her mouth and didn’t chew much before swallowing. She thought for a few moments and then reached for another.

CHAPTER 20
I woke in a warm fuzz, my bag snug around me and my bladder, for once, not that insistent. I slithered out of it nonetheless, and after I had done the necessary, I started a trawl through the food left ready for breakfast by the Woodruffs.
That term finally made sense to me, for Steph was now so clearly right in her skin, content as she was, and if someone who shared a bed with her had no issues, then why should I? I decided I would keep telling myself that until I was convinced.
“Bobby, be reasonable, I haven’t even picked up the clippers, it can’t itch.”
“Mom, I don’t care, can’t we just leave my hair long? It isn’t very long, it barely reaches my collar, there are lots of boys that have hair longer than I do.”
It was a humid summer night when the shadows crept across the skyscrapers of Manhattan, casting long, inky fingers over the city. Jonathan Reed, an unassuming bachelor, found himself at a dimly lit, exclusive bar called "The Velvet Parlor." It was the kind of place where the rich and the powerful gathered to relax, away from the prying eyes of the common man. Jonathan didn't belong here, but fate had a funny way of leading the lost.
Seventeen - it's a birthday overshadowed by its predecessor and successor and Gaby's looks set to follow that pattern. There are however big decisions to be made, should she grab life by the horns and experience everything it has to offer or take the more conservative, safer route through life. This volume, the 26th in the Gaby series has all the elements of classic Gaby, bike riding, teenage angst, developing relationships, grist to the mill for our heroine as life in the Ahrtal ticks on.
The next day I got home before anyone else. As usual I dropped my bag in the hall and took my shoes off. I walked into the dining room and couldn’t help but notice the make up that Suzie had used last night was on the table. I stood for. A moment in silence wondering if it had been left there to taunt me following my debut as a make up model, or just a coincidence.
“Hi, beautiful!” Matt said as I opened the front door.
“I wore this for you today,” I turned around and curtsied so he could see the cut-off and my skirt. I would have to put on a flannel to cover myself once we got to school, but until then it was all for the best boyfriend one could wish for.
“Looking good, Tai,” Tony said from the driver’s seat. Chris sat in the front passenger, allowing us to sit in the back together.
By the time Sunday came around the prospective party completely filled my thoughts. Choosing what to wear had been easy enough. Knowing that for part of the time I would be wearing only a swimsuit, for the rest of the afternoon I selected a dress that was neither too short nor too revealing up top. It was a pretty pink number with a lace collar and I thought it suited my purpose just fine. Very demure! I was more anxious about who I might meet and what I would be asked to do.
Monday morning was an absolute whirlwind at the Blackburn house, as Ariel found out the moment she stepped from her room. She nearly collided with a half-asleep Rylee in the hallway, at which Rylee profusely apologized and then scurried off in the direction of the bathroom. Somewhere off down the hall, a hairdryer whirred, and the kitchen yielded the sounds of sizzling meat and the clatter of dishes.
“Tori, I can’t find my eyeliner!” Rylee called from the bathroom as Ariel stumbled toward the kitchen.

I suppose that was inevitable that I would end up in prison. I had hoped that I could get away to somewhere safe before the brown stuff hit the fan. No, my greed held me back for too long and here I was, in court, with the judge about to read out my sentence.

My sister's all-girl J-POP band (in Texas?) needs a bass player. No problem, I play bass, but if I take the gig, it won't be an all-girl band.... So, obvious solution and I do look cute, unfortunately....
What do you mean, we're a hit? And we've got a contract!? And we're going to JAPAN?!?!
I can't be most popular girl in the band! My name is Sam...
