Email notifactions for Private Messages?

Once upon a time, when I received a PM on the site, I got an email to notify me of the message. Now adays, I get a notification when I'm logged in, but not in my email.

Not complaining, just kinda wondering... I get way too much email as it is...

Emma's Story: Chapter 9

Emma’s Story: Chapter 9
Samantha Jenkins

“Why did you come after me?” I asked as Mom opened the door on the van. She looked at me and Abby and realized that Abby had the situation under control.

“Because I’ve been in your shoes…” Was Abby’s simple, but profound statement. I slowly glanced up at her.

best of big closet quandry

Well, I am excited that there is going to be a book version of big closet. My problem is, that I have probably read hundreds of stories since I started here, and thanks to having a brain built to drain pasta, I don't remember very many of them. So how do I nominate? The other issue is my own stuff. I am finding it hard to feel comfortable putting my own writing forward, when there are so many much more talented people here. But, I am going to make an effort to do both. find something I loved to nominate, and pick something of mine i think worthy of consideration.

The new code system for leaving comments.

I don't know why this coding thing started just to leave a comment on someone's story, but it is very stressful because when you enter the right code it says you have entered it wrongly. That is pure BS! We have done very well over the years without a coding thing, and we don't need it now.

Is Anyone Using Open Office?

I wanted to know if anyone uses Open Office? I downloaded it and I really can't tell any difference between Microsoft Word. The templates actually look better than Word and the document and spreadsheet program is identical. They also claim it is compatible with Word and reads PDF files just the same. The part I like is that it's free. I couldn't afford to purchase Word when my trial subscription ran out.

My first paid writing job ???

I don't want anyone to jump to confusions over this but I am feeling a bit goose bumpy. A fledgling publishing company has offered me the chance to write short articles on Sustainability, the Environment, and the development of new energy sources. I am not an engineer, but I do have loads of hands on experience in the field, and have developed an opinion on what the difficulties are, and what needs to happen.

Odyssey II Part 9

Part 9

The entire social structure of the school was slowly shifting due to Krista's unrelenting positive attitude and willingness to reach out to others. The spirit of the school steadily shifted to one of cooperation and mutual respect. Those who didn't adapt quickly found themselves losing status. Most were smart enough to ride the wave of change and fit themselves in the new social norm.

Why use CAPTCHA on the site?

Due to the enormous increase in SPAM bots visiting the site, I've been forced to add CAPTCHAs to the sign-up page. On some days recently, we've had as many as 150 bogus signups. The bots can't get in because they never reply to the emails sent out but they bog down the system with useless database entries and queries.

Interesting Development

So, something's come up in my life as potentially very, VERY positive. I just don't know if it's a step in the right direction or not.

I found out through, of all people, the mother of someone I went to school with and haven't seen in years, that there are special services for the blind for adults now, who can teach me a trade and help me get a job with the US Government. It would apparently all be paid for too.

The caveat is that I'd have to live in Little Rock. ;-)

The School Play

The Play

It's amazing how over life's courses that you forget many an occurrence that at the time were important to you. This is just such a story and memory, one from a long since forgotten time (but thats what diaries are for right?).

Seeing the light

Years since I last published anything I wrote. So this is going to be a semi-new thing for me. Let's see if I can give justice to MELANIE EZELL'S BIG CLOSET ULTIMATE WRITER'S CHALLENGE, the first week challenge:

1. In the Blink of an Eye

idea: Write a story with an instantaneous transformation. Aliens, magic, weird nanobots, the method is up to you, but the change is instant. Explore how the change affects the character's views of social situations and day to day activities.

What would we do without the Sun or Daily Mail.

It seems a TS author who wrote a play about Jesus returning to earth as a transsexual has been awarded a literary grant for further researches of transsexualism in the Bible. As may be imagined, it's got some people frothing in their sporrans.

Judge for yourself with the unbiased reportage expected of the Sun in Scotland.

Or the Daily Mail, which reports on Leah T bears her soul to Oprah about seeking a full sex-change op. Wow, like that's news these days.

17,000 words, and counting

Well, I am now over 17,000 words in my phoenix story, and it shows no sign of slowing down. I figure its probably over half done, but frankly, I am not sure. It has gone in a totally unexpected direction from my original idea to the point I feel like I am just hanging on, trying to keep the story from falling into a ditch. Fun stuff.

Using Photos with your stories. Any issues with copywrite enfringement?

I have recently started posting on BC and my stories include images I have found on Google Images. I believe that all the images I have used have no photo credit. However, I am willing to give credit. Has anyone heard of or experience any type of issues with copywrite enfringements with their story? Any thoughts or advice?

A Year's Worth Of Challenges!!!

Welp, I've been working for a while on compiling a list of weekly and monthly Writer's Challenges, enough to last an entire year. I've finally finished the list! At least, the first draft of the list. There's probably room for improvement, and a few missteps along the way, but here goes nothing:

rules for "best of big closet"

I wrote a pm to Erin, with my idea on how to do a "best of big closet" book - make it a contest! These would be the rules, in my opinion:

Authors can only submit their own work, and in doing so are giving permission for publication. The only exception should be for an author who has passed on. In that case the submission must be approved by the estate.

Submission will be done publicly as reply to the official opening of the contest. no pm submissions. Submissions will include a link to the story.
