What a delightfully off center idea!
Something I would expect from your off center sense of humor, John. Plaid Lanterns... Three Stooges... obviously the aliens would also have to assume that we aren't affected by physical damage as well, no? AND just suppose that any effect that the Stooge Lanterns rings would have, it would HAVE to be accompanied by the appropriate sound effect.
GAH! I just hurt my brain with that one!

Galaxy Quest
Someone had to mention that film, which started off with a similar premise. Aliens know about us only from watching our TV transmissions, and have mistaken a series resembling Star Trek as a documentary. Hilarity apparently ensues (I've only read the plot outline, haven't actually seen the film) when they kidnap the cast to help them out with difficulties.
It could be an interesting concept to play with, whether it's a sci-fi series they've got addicted to, a vaudeville comedy, or something even sillier...

on a more serious note does that mean there are going to be abductions??? If I remember the movie correctly they (the 'crew' got kidnapped and given a 'replica' of their ship. Only thing not so sure is the icorparation of the 'lantern' power into something that's says 3 stooges. Crowbar and hammer already excist in the animated version of the green lantern I believe (had some time to think about it)
And it's an idear that isn't so far fetched radio waves are going into space since early 20th centuary, TV since the 30's (I think). Let alone what we are sending up into space at this time. And then I'm not even talking about the hardware (ex. Voyager series). Don't now but if the next step is laser communication in space and the step beyond that. Maybe there's going to be some with enough umphf that they get noticed . Isn't that a part of what SETI does????

There must be numerous episodes of Who floating around - the aliens would probably be very disappointed to learn that it's a 'ship' of two halves - an empty wooden box carted around from place to place, and a set constructed on the outskirts of Cardiff.
Pray that they don't catch any episodes of the MTV show (or film spin-offs) featuring Philip John Clapp.
And what the heck would they make of Big Bother (something always created by a similarly named show) or I Was A Celebrity... (i.e. Revive My Flagging Career!)
Still, there's always PMQs for (unintentional?) entertainment value.
Radio broadcasts could be interesting - from the UK, there's The Archers - a soap set in Borsetshire (somewhere between Worcestershire and Warwickshire) but recorded in central Birmingham; or ISIHAC, the antidote to panel games where the host sets the contestants "silly things to do" (like singing one song to the tune of another, or playing an incredibly complicated game with ever-changing rules set around London Underground stations).
