Just some thoughts of mine...

When i wrote my prologue for my first story here, I of course watched the comments roll in. I was actually surprised at the number of comments a simple prologue on a story that hadn't even been told yet, written by an author no one had heard from before, had received. Naturally the comments were a mix of Good/Bad. I did expect a few bad remarks, and one or two i felt i did deserve. But what got me the most i think were when the commenters tried poking holes in the story. One even went as far as to say that i had written in haste.

Well i admit that i AM sorta writing by the seat of my pants, so to speak, but haste wouldn't have been the words i would have used. This story had been bouncing in my head for several years and I'm just now writing it (I've another idea that's been bouncing for almost 5 years, i actually feel that i could start writing it now, but I'd rather do one thing at a time). There are a LOT of things going on in the background that make things the way they are.

Now to remark on the simularities between my story and the movie Avatar... well yes the movie did have some impact. To deny that would be an outragous lie. However, the only thing i really drew from the movie was the idea of a mining operation (after i had finally watched the movie 6 months ago)

So if that's true where did i draw the inspiration for this story that so very much resembles the Avatar movie? The answer is in Video games. There is an MMORPG call Requiem: Memento Mori. That is where the ispiration for everything took place. There were a few things that i drew elsewhere. Such as the virus, i pulled from Resident Evil (obviously). Originally i was going to have a zombie appocolypse simular to R.E. but decided that instead i wanted everything have the ability of reproduction... which meant the beasts needed to be mutations instead.

The world of Requiem was a dry desolate place, a dead world more or less... i hate dead worlds and wanted something more fun to play with. So the idea of a Tropical rainforest came into play.

So when i sat down to watch the movie Avatar for the first time, you could say that i was a bit surprised! But at the same time i was a tad disapointed that the world i had been creating in my head was right there in front of me in cinema, with a few differences. Hell, even our main characters were both blue! (the KRUXENA race from the game) but the movie DID provide me with the final piece of the story i needed, the mechanic of "why bother to do it there" include it into the planned story and the last piece clicked into place.

thats happened to me

I've started a story, only to find a movie or a story by a famous author doing the same idea, and having to drop it or seriously modify it As for the haste thing, if you feel like you need to, a good editor may be able to help you there. Hugs.

As they say, "Great Minds..."

Some critic or marketing guru has said that the movie "Princess of Mars" was the inspiration for "Avatar" (No, I'm not sure if that is BS or not-I've never seen it, I just own it!). Seriously, this is not a new theme. The way they did it was what made "Avatar" so special-the Special Effects, the spectacular film-making. There was an animated story called "Battle For Terra" that was very similar to "Avatar"...
The point is,the basic premise has been around the block a few times. It's your story telling that makes the difference!
