Emerson has spent most of his life in the System, bouncing from one foster home to the next but never truly finding a home. That is until his 16th Birthday when he receives a letter from a grandmother he never knew existed. She invites him to come live with her in her mansion, promising to take care of him. Emerson reluctantly agrees and soon finds himself face to face with a strange, cold woman that barely acknowledges him. That is until the night he drinks a special tea and wakes up the next morning as a beautiful teen girl. He soon learns of his family's long existing magical legacy and must prepare to enter a Magical Academy to hone his skill.

It was an ad in a local newspaper, what brought my attention to it was the photograph of a female hand located right in the middle of the ad. The hand had beautiful long nails, done in a bright red polish, the rose nail art adding to the elegance of the hand.

The ad was announcing a contest for any interested parties. The winner would be the one with the longest, most beautiful nails after six months.

“Ex- excuse me?” The young woman asks, her facemask muffling her soft Yorkshire accent. “Can — can we get a selfie with you, please?” I allow myself a small chuckle as I turn to face the asker of the question — a girl barely older than sixteen, standing with three others of her age. All of them are wearing t-shirts with cartoon caricatures on the front and, even though I can’t see them, angel wing prints on the back, just like all t-shirts promoting the group I tried — and failed — to join.
