The girl's face was bright with pride and her smile spread from ear to ear. “Thank you Mama.”

“And so polite too. How did I get so lucky to have a beautiful girl with manners?” She asked, looking over to her mother-in-law.

“Don't ask me. Maybe she's been in there all this time, she just needed the chance to come out.” Modine said as she went to the cupboard and pulled out a loaf of freshly made bread. She waited for Tracy to turn back to her and she cut a slice off of the loaf. She then offered the knife to her. “Here you go young lady. Five more slices, just like the one I did.”

It wasn’t a bad Summer, all told. There was an awful lot of adjustment to fit in and fit ourselves to, and I have to admit I did miss Tabby. She had been my confidante, my only friend, for as long as it took me to find out that the last wasn’t true and never had been. I said goodbye to her properly, and packed a few outfits for her in her new home with the girls.

Its breakfast and packing real lunches then us heading off to school again. It’s still not routine to me. Actually the whole thing’s kind of special; even dreamlike. I mean we stop and get a box of stuff from Wired and we meet at our regular table and just hanging out together.
