The two surgeons arrived at the room to find James on his way out to physiotherapy, the nurse had got him into his wheelchair after dressing him in something better than a hospital gown. Dr Graves told the nurse to send word once James had returned to the room and to have him completely stripped in preparation for a physical examination by Dr Wells.

Chapter 15

It was all very surreal and Déjá -vu as I led a shaking and scared and miserable Danny upstairs into my loft. I made some hot chocolate and looked at him as I stirred it. “Danny?”

“Yes…” his voice was really meek sounding.

“Why? Why me?”

“I dunno? Scared I guess of what’s going on in my head. But not just that, it’s not being able to get you out of my mind.”

Both of them looked at Tracy, standing there in her bright pink nightgown, her hair done up in pigtails, as she stood there. When she spoke, her voice trembled. “Please stop fighting.” She pleaded.

“You're right, we were fighting.” Her father agreed. He gave a big sigh and moved to his youngest, and put an arm around her. “There are times that parents will fight. But that doesn’t mean that we hate you. Or Vance.”

The day before the procedure a well groomed man entered the hospital and asked to see the surgeons who were dealing with the child, he didn`t introduce himself to the receptionist, he just stood there waiting with an air of superiority a lowly receptionist was beneath his notice usually.

I walk down the hallway. My boots give of muffled noises on the this carpet with it's ridiculoussly old fashioned golden braids. I wear the black boots of a russian commander. No immitation. The real thing. Just to mention. Let's just say he won't need them no more anyway. As well as the rest of his uniform. The great grandparents on my mothers side of the family had been ukrainians, so thanks to them, even my looks match the role I'm playing right know.

CHAPTER 27
There is a chain Mexican restaurant in the shopping complex that is Gun Wharf Quay, and while hardly authentic the food is tasty and plentiful, and they had a small booth well away from any other diners. We did, indeed, have fajitas, which are ideal for a social meal.
