“Isn’t that—?”

“Yes.”

“Shouldn’t we call—?”

“No.”

Jeff stood in the kitchen with Mary and Kyra while the new guest was taken upstairs and treated by Wyatt. Mortar Mage and Walter were up there with them in case she woke up during Wyatt’s treatment. Jackie walked in, in full costume.

I’ve been having strange dreams of late. My Lord pays a bounty on every proven wolf kill. The right ear is what the Master of his coffers pays two pieces of silver for. In my first such dream I had an arrow nocked and the bow string drawn with a wolf in my sights. That was when I noticed it was a nursing bitch. Now I may be a killer, but I’m no monster. All mothers have the right to rear their offspring. There have to be some wolves to maintain the health of the deer and ensure they don’t overgraze their range and subsequently starve. I loosed the tension on my bow and put my arrow back in my quiver. I heard a woman’s voice behind me say, "Thank you, Gervaise," but when I turned there was no one there.

I woke up, shivering, the room still dark. Searching around for my covers in the darkness did no good. I wondered what had happened to my nightlight. Since I turned seventy, I had found my night vision fading and very little help during my frequent trips to the restroom.

The next morning and thanks to a delay on the subway, I arrived in the office only 5 minutes after the Wall St Market had opened.
As I walked across the floor and people started to stand up and applaud me. I stopped by the desk of one of the other traders and said,

“What is this for?”

“Don’t you know?”

“Know what? If I knew I’d hardly be asking you, now would I?”

“Your book is already up sixteen and a half.”

I was flabbergasted. It meant that my trading book was already up sixteen point five million. It must have been the trades I executed on Tokyo the previous day.

I've been chewing on ideas for other stories, but this won't let me ignore it, so here's another of Susie's Days - see Susie Saturdays for the first.

Grandma stood in front of the now uncovered well and said. “Ding Dong Dell; Belmare Moor Springs in my well.”

Well thankfully my concern we were going to leap into the shit filled well was unfounded...

Walter found Jeff directing some construction work. He waited for the opportunity to arise to approach his friend. Years ago, when they had met, trying anything of the sort was deemed suicidal, and a good way to end up cleaning toilets and floor tiles alike with only a toothbrush. Oddest of all, those were simpler times, Walter recalled.

“I haven’t seen you around Striga Island all that often,” said Jeff.

Alone

The woman named Jolene brought out two bins on a cart that also had several clothes hanging form racks.

“There’s a complete bathroom down the hall,” she said. Let’s take this down.”
“Okay,” I replied with a little timidness to my voice. It was almost like my words were swallowed up by my throat. I didn’t know if they were still going to call my parents or a squad of cops. I mean, he obviously knew what happened at school—how I barricaded myself in one office. What was to stop me from doing that here?
