Chapter 1. Introductions.
This is the story of a person who is very special to me. First, I should introduce myself and tell you about my family.

When I was christened my parents called me Wendell. You probably don’t recognize the name the physicians use: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS for short. You probably know it as motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig's disease. But by any name, it’s a death sentence. It’s genetic. It’s in my body. There is no cure. Three to four years was all I had. It advances with age, and you cannot fight aging.
Mostly the drugs helped me sleep but I lay there with my eyes open and never felt less like sleeping. I hurt, but not so bad; the drugs helped with that too. It wasn't pain that kept me awake.

The year is 2024. And one of the greatest archaeology finds of all time is on display at the Smithsonian. No one ever expected to find something buried deep within the caves below Mount Fuji, Japan. Especially not a seven foot tall, fifteen foot wide, two foot thick, one-thousand pound, hand carved red lacquered, ebony wood, bejeweled sculpture of the dragon Toyotama-hime that is over 2000 years old. For 16yr old Tony Watanabe this statue held more than just your normal fascination. It held his destiny.
This is a story inspired by a wonderful YouTube Video recently posted. This is my take on the build up to that video and perhaps I will share the title at the end of the story unless there is a risk of me getting into trouble.
