Something Good
A Musical Interlude

by Andrea Lena DiMaggio

The bride stared at her new mate with wonder and pride; they were married a bit later than most. She smiled and her lover smiled back. She squeezed out a tear as her brother finished the invocation and toast, wiping her face with the souvenir napkin -

Esme and Carlie forever...June 18, 2011

She stood up, receiving the microphone from her brother. Looking back at her bride of nearly one hundred and five minutes, she smiled and nodded nervously. Her hands began to shake.

"I love you...always," Esme said to her new mate. She grabbed Carlie's hand and squeezed, assuring her that no matter what happened, it would be alright. Carlie took a deep breath and began to sing...

You know I had a different childhood
An altogether different youth
But somewhere in my past I found for myself
There was a different and wonderful truth

And here you are, sitting there, loving me
Whether or not you should
And with that love you've given me today
I've fine'ly done something good

I've finally discovered
What I never could
That somewhere in my youth or childhood
I must have done something good

Carlie began to falter, the tears streamed down her cheeks. Esme stood and stepped close to her new bride and began to sing in return.

For here you are, standing there, loving me
Whether or not you should
And now I feel supremely blessed
I must have done something good.

They embraced as the attendees stood and cheered. Esme Marie Davidson had found the girl of her dreams, Carlie Amanda Montoya, even if it took two tries, a marriage, a divorce, an amicable friendship followed by reconciliation after Charles' surgery and transition. Nothing could have predicted their rediscovery of all that was good and wonderful and pure about their love for each other...But they did.

Nothing comes from nothing...nothing ever could. For somewhere in our youth and childhood, we must have done something good, yes? Hug someone you love, okay?

'I have been having a really rotten day until your posting. Now I have cried tears of joy and I am
looking forward to a brighter day tomorrow with the sweetness of your story still in my mind.
God bless and keep you. That really is something good!

Morning Gram....

Nothing ever comes from nothing is sooo very true. It takes such very difficult introspection and sometimes even more difficult decision to work toward making, and keeping that something special and good. I adore (as in worthy of adoration) this piece, and, of course, you. Brava!

As Always...

Missed By That Much

Loved the story, but all the way through I was trying to force your lyric into the Carole King song that Herman's Hermits sang.

Woke up this morning feelin' fine,
With someone special on my mine.
Last night I was the new girl in the neighborhood = whoa ya.
Something tells me I'm into something good.

What a beautiful continuation of your previous posting, What a beautiful application of a wonderful little song. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have the wedding in Salzburg.

A wonderful recurring love. Sweet sentiment. Romance and a happy ending. God, I needed that!
