START THE RAIN
Lord, as I walk ‘cross a dry and thirsty place
And I don’t know when water last touched my face
Start the rain, start the rain
Although all I see is barren sand
I know I am still in your hand
Start the rain, start the rain
And though you seem far away
I know that all I have to do is pray
Start the rain, start the rain
No other name can save me, no
I trust in you though hot winds blow
Start the rain, start the rain
My enemies may surround
The hot sun may pound
Still I will wait for the sound
Of your trumpets resound
And the water will start to fall
When you give an answer to my call
And start the rain, start the rain.

This Resonates with Me
I grew up on the prairie with annual rainfall of 10 - 12 inches. The idea of rain as Divine Intervention or Grace seems horrible appropriate.
A friend of mine, Chuck Suchy, wrote a song about rain. God It's Great When it Rains. It sure is.

Rain and all that
Where I am living they say it rains only three times a year - but once it rains for 300 days, once for 50 days, and once for the rest of the year!
Actually, it rains slightly less than that, and most days it doesn't rain for the whole day, we even get sightings of a huge bright object in the sky, some days - rumour has it that it was the Sun.
On very rare occasions people have been known to suffer from sunburn from exposure to it (even happened to me, once), but normally the thermo-nuclear furnace's rays are filtered gently by soft veils of mist or cloud. Just the Idea that anyone would actually pray for rain.....
Almost as strange as the idea that such a prayer would be answered.
