GRASP THE SWORD TIGHTLY
by Dorothy Colleen

There is a sword being forged

Called “Being Male”

Forged in fires hot as the sun

The crowd has demanded

I grasp the blade

No protection

No time for it to cool

To ignore the searing pain

And the smell of my burning flesh

And wield the sword always

And they will never let me let it go

Just out of curiosity...

How does this apply to those of us born male who don't have a problem with it?

POV

The poem's just one point of view.
Others may feel the same way about the sword called "Being Female".
Others may look at both swords and feel unease / unwillingness to touch either.
Others may willingly grasp either sword - or even both!

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

That's a fair enough view.

I'm still curious as to what the author thinks, though.

May we always embrace who we are...

...and may we wield the armor and the sword we choose...the blade forged for us rather than the one others believe we should carry. Thank you!

She was born for all the wrong reasons but grew up for all the right ones.

And the blind, they do call that sword "Truth"

as they steal away all that is different from us.

Puts me in the mood for a little Poe to counterpoint your excellent poetry.

Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore
Nameless here for evermore.

And what about that ebony bird, that harbinger of woe? Surely it must weep at such a plight, and allow us at last to let go that horrid sword?

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Ah, too dark is Poe, even in such majestic words! I say to you, Dorothy, that upon your feet you wear the ruby slippers. They can take you anywhere you so desire. All you need is to believe...

Me, I say the sword is for those who want it. Not everybody is into thud and blunder.
