I was a little disappointed that so few responded to my request to compare the two stories I posted on the weekend and tell me which was the early one and which the more recent.
I still feel that I am very new to this fiction writing gig, although I am always writing for work and some of my colleagues accuse me of fiction.
I am just curious as to whether I am getting any better or falling away under the burden of prolificacy.

Susan Brown's "ORPHAN"

Having just reread Susan Brown's "ORPHAN", I was reminded of another story, in which tennis is a part.

If memory serves, the MC begins a new school, I think all goes well until after the Christmas break, when the weather begins to get warmer, the sports curriculum changes and one of the sports that is played in spring is Tennis.

Looking for a sad story

I am 99.9% certain that this story was a single post (SOLO), and that it is an older story

and this story is different as the MC is a diary

Mother finds her child's diary, after child's death, and reads last few entrys

mother adds last entry to the diary, while the diary is asking 'What are you doing?'

I do remember that there is an image in this story, it is of a yellow Post-It Note™®, although I can't remember what was written on it

Winter scribbling planning

My next Kindle release will be 'Deathtrap', incorporating the Aftermath story. It is being fully revised with new, previously unseen, content. Of course, Alecia is on board for that. Currently that is expected in late November but ... sometimes things happen sooner!

Meanwhile there are two brand new Tammyverse stories in production with one just about finished. Unfortunately they can't be posted here yet but there will be fresh, unseen, Tammy on this site before Christmas! Posting is likely to continue into 2022, after which there will be a break.

Androgynous Claude Cahun's 127th Birthday; (Google doodle)

Claude Cahun was featured in a recent Google doodle:
https://www.google.com/doodles/claude-cahuns-127th-birthday

"French author and surrealist photographer Claude Cahun—best-known for their purposefully unsettling yet playful self-portrait photography that challenged the gender and sexuality norms of the early 20th century..."
...
"Cahun’s work has influenced gender bending celebrities, the modern LGBTQ+ community, and conversations on identity and expression to this day."

The long road to 100 kudos

In November 2007 I posted a story here called THIS QUINTESSENCE OF DUST. It was my 4th or 5rh work of transgender fiction but it was the first one of any length, and the first I worked really hard on trying to create credible well-rounded characters that I hoped the reader could empathize with. And it was a challenge for me because I wanted them to be a pair of normal cisgender guys who were intelligent and more or less decent and not just buffoonish caricatures. In a way my creating them was my attempt to grow beyond my often misadrist attitudes toward males.

No Legacy this Week

Well, I hate doing this since I just barely came out of hiatus, but there will be no Legacy of Earth this week. The main factor being that I had to do ten hours of directed (mandatory) overtime and I just haven’t had the energy or time to edit the latest chapter.

I do apologize and hope everyone has a deliciously devious weekend,

X-The last Woman

X the Last Woman

I was thinking of writing a reverse version of Y the Last Man. In the series and the book (graphic novel) the women are pretty screwed , Most of the world's infrastructure is still kept running by men. In a prophetic line about truck drivers the new president says that the country was run on trucks delivering things. She says only 5% of truck drivers are women. (there is a shortage of truck drivers currently in a few countries since covid) A dam breaks and floods towns as there is no one to fix it. Power is off etc.

There is no count on stories on Big Closet by I think "Vengeance" was my 250th story posted here.
I need to be careful as over on that other site I have been attacked for blowing my own trumpet and flooding that site with my captioned image things.
But over here (with two exceptions being "AGD" and "All Grown Out" for reasons explained there) all my stories posted on Big Closet are full short stories, or maybe even somethings that qualify as a novelette.

So sleepy

Hey everyone,

So, as some of you may have seen on my Patreon page, late last week I started on something new to help me sleep at night and keep the nightmares at bay. The good news is it's been mostly working pretty well. I'm getting sleep and I haven't had too many bad nightmares and unlike the anti-anxiety drugs I was given a while back I can wake up if I need to.

Slight Delay, but now up!

Slight delay in getting Part 6 of Light And Shadow posted. After discussions with my awesome proof-reader it was realized that the division of the Parts needed adjustment to pull in one more chapter to better round out 6's complement. Hopefully they will get to that chapter tomorrow and I can post the now-extended Part 6 up by the evening.

Lowell's Vacation Is Here!

Long ago, back in July, I started uploading a new story, Vacation, to bigclosetR.us. After lots of fine constructive criticism from the readers, I finished a 13,000-word novella for you.

I enjoyed working with the fine readers here at bigcloset.us and was determined to complete a novel based on the story. I dug myself in and created a 46,000-word story that we called Lowell's Vacation. (Our editor, Tom Peashey, suggested that Vacation was too overused as a title)

I can happily say that it's now for sale on Amazon for your reading pleasure. Thanks, Leslie

Just not a good time

This is apparently just a bad week. Last night, the hard drive with my nearly finished next book along with a few other works in process went belly up. At first I thought the computer itself was toast. It would never come out of POST. This morning, I just left it on and eventually it did come up. Without that one drive. I'm hoping the physical disc is undamaged and it's just the circuitry that has failed. I'll have to look at data recovery options.

A hard drive may sound like a silly thing to cry about, but there's a lot of work on that disc.

Remember Vacation, a little novella that I posted at Big Closet a few months back?

Well, thanks to your support and suggestions, I went back and wrote more. It's done.

My wonderful editor, Tom Peashey, suggested that Vacation is too common a title, so it became Lowell's Vacation.

Girl or Boy?

Got on the bus today to go out and pay a bill, and got off on the wrong stop and walked what seemed like miles the wrong direction. I was completely knackered by the time everything was straightened out. I was sitting there almost dozing and looked toward the back of the Bus. On the first of the elevated seats past the back door sat the most astonishing sight! I was looking at the most pretty 'person' I've seen in a long time. Dykish haircut, combed like a boy, with 50s hair cream, parted down one side. The eyes were lovely but not overdone. Makeup was understated.

Thanks to Gabi

I just wanted to thank Gabi for her help editing my recent stories, particularly 'Harvey and the pretty girl'. There are a few more chapters to post before Halloween and I just wanted to make sure that I thanked her properly. I struggle just to write the words at the moment with everything else that is going on in my life, so it means a lot to have someone who will pitch in and help with editing.
All the mistakes are mine and all the corrected spellings are hers :-)

“A Cracker Barrel Christmas”

Plot starter:

Nichole Armitage works at the local Cracker Barrel—the hangout for the much older crowd—and she befriends an old man who would like to fix her up with his grandson. At the same time, her brother and his family (wife and three kids) come to visit and he’s visibly not happy that his parents and Nichole kept her transition a secret from him.

I would like to thank all those who chose to read my little tale 'Jools'. I originally had no intention of a follow up to 'Jools'. But I was enamored with the characters and the setting and just could not resist. Plus... What better way to screw up a decent tale than with a follow up? I now want to go to Denmark and spend the rest of my life eating smoked and pickled fish and cheeses.

New Walker's Path is out!

Hello out there,

A new chapter of Walker's Path is out!

A bit of a warning. Its name "Violation" is that way for a reason. If you have problems reading about being sexually assaulted I suggest not reading this chapter. Even though it's only a kiss to the person it happens to it feels as if the whole world is against you.

I was able to get a copy of "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury from Amazon, and re-reading it reminds me how much I loved it.

It also inspired one of my first stories here: https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/19389/perfect-opportu...

If you've never read it, I'd love it if you did, and of course comments are always appreciated!

First Draft is done!

Hello out there,

Just finished the first draft of Walker's Path Chapter 14. There are a few parts that feel a bit disjointed but I'm sure when I make a second pass through I'll iron most of them out.

It's a long chapter again which I'm sure most of you won't mind.

This one made me cry because I was in a similar situation before. You'll understand when you see it.

Looking forward to seeing your reactions!

Have a great day!

Mea Culpa - Or how I goofed up big time

As Brittney sings, 'Oops I did it again', I messed up my postings big time. Thanks to a blog by Maryanne Peters, I found that I have posted one part of County Sheriff well out of sequence.

There are a number of parts that should have been posted before 'The Interview'. One comment got me thinking and then when answering Maryanne's blog post earlier today, it clicked.
It goes to show that no filing system is 100% perfect.

I've been rereading

Taylor Ryan's, Bailey Saga, which starts with Summer of Bailey.

I was the one who suggested Taylor should post here and I'm glad she did, the saga is a detailed description of the tribulations of adolescence made worse by the background of gender discomfort and bigotry or homophobia from some quarters. Virtually all the main characters have a story to tell as Bailey grows as a person and grows up in general. It is a very well written series that brings into focus the roller coaster ride that is adolescence and one person's in particular.

Story Management

I write too much. I am not as attractive as I once was, I am overweight and I write too much. There - I have said it.
But the problem is that I am still doing it - voraciously.
Is there a story count mechanism on BC? Not that I need it. The number will be too many.
But then in responding to a message about "Kerry Cottage" I have discovered that a story that has appeared on Fictionmania has not been posted here! I will fix that, but it is distressing.
Does anybody know of any other full story appearing over there that is not here when it should be?

Janegirl Camp Gender Chat Questions

I've been working on the next chapter of Janegirl Camp, where Zee, Raine, and Jess join a Gender Chat session hosted by Mrs Shepherd. After everyone there introduces themselves, I was thinking of there being a gender themed question and answer session, but I'm not sure what sorts of questions might be interesting. Does anyone have any suggestions of what gender themed questions you might have asked, if you were a kid between ten and twelve, while being a camper at Janegirl Camp?

Taking professional errors as encouragement

Two friends of mine work in Hollywood. One is a writer, and when he first went out there, the word spread among our friends that a well-known detective show was using one of his scripts. We were all pretty excited. None of us had ever read a word he'd written, so we didn't know what to expect.

Then, as a kind of aside, we learned that very late in their schedule, the script the show MEANT to use suddenly developed problems and had to be withdrawn. They needed a replacement YESTERDAY, but the only script on hand was the one my friend has written.
