I was being pulled in so many directions at once I felt I might tear down the middle.

“Stop fussing, Neil. It’s a bloody wig; they don’t get ‘conditioned’, OK?”

Mam was sat at the dresser doing things to herself while Larinda shepherded the girls next door, but Nelly just HAD to help me, as he saw it. I turned to face him, taking his hands.

“Girl stuff, pet. We take our time but we get there in the end, aye?”

She looked out to glimpse Howard Bay; soft clouds obscured most of her view. The song, fitting it seemed for the moment, bounced around her head; her resolve sharp and focused, as if to push her along. She stepped forward and expelled a frustrated breath. Chapter 18

We’re kissing right up until the car service pulls up and we break it blushing when the driver got out and was patiently waiting for us to stop. I’m glad that we were enough in control of ourselves that we weren’t all heavy kissing like we do when we’re alone. But it was these soft sweet brandy melting me kisses that make me feel all odd and fluttery in a good way.

I love being softly and slowly kissed. It’s more like I feel wanted and care for and treasured than consumed by passion.

Though I am starting to learn to appreciate where that takes me as well.

Say what? It started becoming clear that she thought I was wearing fake breasts or something. I tried telling her they were real, and dragged out the plastic card Chief Watt had given me. But she just wasn't listening.

Finally, after yet another "take them off!" I'd had enough. I reached down and yanked the top off over my head.

"There, I've taken off the only thing I can take off. Or do you want me to take off my shorts too?"

I've mentioned a friend's daughter, J, before. She's more than a bit headstrong, has not so standard interests. When she gets a bit older I'm going to have to talk to her mother about introducing her to a few people. For the safety of any boyfriends she may have!

Her latest escapade wound up being self-punishing. Seems she and a few of her friends found a piercer who was willing to overlook the fact that they were underage.

It sort of started when we attended a family reunion in Oregon. I met a cousin who lived there. Nothing special about that.

Not until I saw her head for the mens locker room at the pool in the park the reunion picnic was in.

"Morgan! Whoa. That's the guys locker room!"

I got this long suffering look. "I know, Melinda. Legally, I am a guy. Look, I can explain everything later."

He(?) paused. "That is, if you still want to hang around with a weirdo."

I was a bit surprised, but shook my head. "No, I've got my own weirdnesses. I can hardly get upset at you for being weird."

When Phil McNierney agreed to be a guinea pig for Andy Hoffmann’s new serum, he didn't know what the serum, a little hypnosis, and his own mind would get him into. Still they were best friends, and didn’t Phil trust Andy?

In virtually every way, she resembled her ‘predecessor;’ the sister in a set of metaphoric fraternal twins, in a way. But her expression and her demeanor were all Christina. No hint of Christopher other than the same reluctant half-smile borne of insecurity and hope. Chris looked at his daughter; perhaps for the first time, in a way and sighed.

Suzanna returns to her home and family in a new role, and they all must figure out how to adapt to the changes.
