I've slowly been switching from Wimpdoze to Linux (specifically, Ubuntu 8.04, Hardy Heron). The longer I use it, the more I realize I did *exactly* the right thing. This began slightly before I finally put feet to the realization (which I'd known for years, but was scared to leave my comfort zone) that I am a member of the working poor and applied to a near by university to finish (after a 21 year hiatus) my bachelor's degree. I'm returning to get a degree in Computer Engineering. I intend to use this route to get a *real* job.

Okay, it was delayed today due to a power outage from around 11am until about an hour ago. Updated now, though.

A tip of the hat to Ceri for the blog about writer/editor relationships. That and some of the comments made me start to think about those self-important "head firmly embedded in their anus" individuals who inflict their presence on us through the media and make us go apoplectic at the sight or sound of them or the words they write.

What ever happened to Princess Showy? She has a wonderful story posted here, *The Guardian Princess]but she seems to have abandoned it. Does anybody know what happened to her?

When I think of British Teas Earl Grey or English Breakfast are the ones I think of.Today I was shopping at a local closeout store and spotted P&G tea.On the box they claim they are the most popular Tea in England.So I was wondering if that claim was true.I won't say it was the best tea I ever drank but it was a far cry from the worst.Amy

A quick note to anyone who remembers me and my strange tales.

I've been, truth be told, so busy in that alternate reality we call "real life" with my work, and my band and everything, that I've not been able to indulge my writerly instincts of late.

Well, my Hollywood! project is on hold indefinitely. Why?

1. Unforeseen continuity and balance issues.

2. My Summer Romance contest entry has grown to epic proportions (for me). It may not be finished in time for the contest, but since it is upwards of 40000 words twice over that is more than likely for the best.

Having recently completed my entry for the latest competition; it got me thinking about what makes a sucessfull story.

The story was quite long in excess of 22k. Hits and feedback were quite low compared to my other writings.

I have always believed in the 'grab their attention quickly' school of thinking when writing short stories. Perhaps the opening lines may have put people off...
