Chapter 11 – The Tribunal

Dave returns to the bank face the music. Is this the end of his career as Maria, the cleaning lady?

I showed up at the bank’s headquarters that fateful Monday in my best suit, now a size or two too big for me, and with my dyed hair in a discreet low ponytail. I was smart enough but I guess I must have looked worn and haggard. Maybe I would get the sympathy vote.

Lola reluctantly finds herself involved with another part of the kidnap gang.

All prepared, dressed and packed I set out to the office to face the day’s new challenges

The rest of the meal was spent in silence. Though once the last hot dog had been eaten and the last handful of corn chips consumed, Kayla kind of decided it was time to spill the beans. I will never forget the look that came across her face. It was one of pure sadness.

We had a quiet dinner that night, no grand affair, just normal clothes. The hotel people were still very attentive and the head waiter did say that he looked forward to serving me when I was back here for filming.

Chapter Two - School Daze

CHAPTER 73
Kim was at my shoulder as I caught up with Charlie, and all the younger girl said was that she needed to get out of the building. I helped her down the steps, spotting Paul and Paula standing with the blonde copper under one of the trees to the left of the entrance. Charlie saw where I was looking and nodded, and we got to the next tree just as she broke down completely. Kim and I wrapping her up as she sobbed. All I could do was hold her, soaking up her tears in my jacket, as Paula puffed away on a cigarette as if her life depended on it. A few minutes after our exit, Diane and Blake arrived, and as I looked over Charlie’s shoulder the woman’s face started to twist. Blake took her hand, then her waist, whispering something that brought a couple of sharp nods of agreement from her, and then they started towards us. A few seconds later, they were followed by the two other victims, the Nell Paul had spoken of, together with a woman called Jasmine. That second Nell held out a hand to Diane, clasping her other over the shake.

“Look, there goes the freak!” A voice whispers as I walk down the school corridor, minding my own business. I don’t dignify the bully with any kind of response- instead, I just keep walking, telling myself that their insults can’t hurt me… Even though deep down inside, I know that’s not true.

Chapter 4 – My Transformation

Can the professionals make Dave more convincing as Maria?

I didn’t ask Anna how she found out about Transformations or who her contact was, and she didn’t say, but the following Saturday morning Sally and I found ourselves at their anonymous-looking manor house out in the country. We were welcomed by a very pretty receptionist who introduced herself as Angela.

I really didn’t want to get out of bed the following morning. The hotel bed was so comfortable when compared to its counterpart on Roxy. I rolled over and switched on the radio. The 06:00 news was just finishing. That meant that I had plenty of time to get up in a controlled fashion rather than my normal wake up and get out of bed. I normally reserved my few ‘lounging in bed’ times to when I was in a Hotel but I had to be out of the Hotel and back onboard Roxy before sunrise if we were going to get to Brentford by sunset.

I was born female and all my early life I was totally happy with that. I went through puberty as a girl and I was perfectly happy with that too.

Chapter 7 – A Born Cleaning Lady

A new career beckons for Maria, the hard-working cleaning lady and laundry maid.

As promised, Anna and Phil came round at about eight o’clock to see how Maria had turned out. I answered the door and took some pleasure in seeing their open mouths and gasps of astonishment. I loved performing, and being admired for my acting talents.

“Por favor, pase, Señor y Señora,” I said in character, holding the door wide open.

There is something special about sharing a meal with somebody. When you share a common meal with somebody a bond is formed. And existing bonds become stronger. It's that reason that when me and my friends gather out in the woods, I always have us share a simple meal. Most of the time it's a snack, like somebody would bake cookies or something. Other times we'll go the whole hog and have a little cook-out in the woods. If we have a cookout, you know then there's going to at least three or four good stories told that night.

I couldn’t contain myself any longer and I burst into tears. Taylor stormed off to her room. Jane put her arms around me and we hugged.
