Chapter Three – Do You Love Me?

Transgender lawyer Adele and her cis female partner Celia are preparing to litigate a sexual assault case against four prominent businessmen. Adele's law firm would rather she didn't and they task her with bringing a new client on board using whatever skills she must. The new client provides Adele with some pertinent evidence for her case.

Once I was signed in, mom bent down and gave me a kiss on my cheeks, and then she departed. Leaving me along. The air was filled with nervous chatter. Being true to my nature, I slowly backed myself into the nearest corner I could find and cast my eyes toward the gathering crowds. Now, I understand that popular media has painted the picture of events being something akin to mental fencing, with each person propping the others with catty remarks and teasing insults.

I should have been going to bed but wrote a short piece for Halloween instead. I hope y'all enjoy it.

I had gone camping once before that day.
It was in the backyard in a medium-size pink tent with my sister. We made it through the night and then went inside for lucky charms and Saturday morning cartoons.

Having a tent was something I wished I had that night as I woke up with bugs of every shape and size crawling all over me—including a water bug that’s had no issues with sitting on my face.

Webster’s dictionary defines Speed as the fallowing: the rate of change of position along a straight line with respect to time over a set distance. In other words, the quicker you can get from one place to another. The question is what do you do, when your family has spent the last two generations in search of ways to accomplish this goal faster and faster. Would do you do when the family business is the search for more Speed. For Robert ‘Robby’ McGuire the answer is easy. You grab your sister and strap on a pair of Formula One racecars then go for broke.

"We’re going ice skating Saturday after next and shopping for a costume for me next Saturday. There will be about a dozen of us, all girls from twelve to seventeen. Sarah’s friends are great at keeping boys in line and I’m learning how to as well. They all want to know how soon the hormones are going to give me my boobs, cos they think it’s not really fair that I haven’t got any at my age. Have you any idea?”

The three occupants of the home near Troy in upstate New York listened avidly to the daily reports of the trial for Tax Evasion of their one-time client, Al Capone. They knew more than most about the goings on of the Chicago Mob of the 1920’s. As transporters of illegal beer, they knew all the where and when and how much stuff was moved around. They knew to keep their mouths shut in the event of them being apprehended by one of the many arms of US Law Enforcement. They did have some information that might be used to broker a deal but otherwise, they would keep silent. They hoped that as a fairly minor cog in the big wheel of Prohibition Busting operations that went on in 1920's Chicago they'd slip through the net that the Feds were casting around.
