At the hospital, Dad played up. He wouldn't eat his sandwich and he wanted to go to the pub. I didn't. I was tired and I had work to do. When I told him I was expecting to go for surgery around New Year, he got quite cross with me.

This is a short chapter. I hope you enjoy it. If you have not already done so, it might help if you would read my story, "Guns are not for Little Boys", Chapter 2. It may help understand this chapter.

I wasn't sure how we were going to play it, but when Mom reached into the changing booth and rolled my boy clothes up into a tight roll, I got it: for the moment, I was Juliette.

 
As Charlotte becomes more comfortable in her new life she faces returning to her old school as guest soloist. Her desire to become something more than a nobody requires her to deal with two doctors, one caring and one not. What lengths will she go to in order to attain her goals?

Alice asked, "How will you handle tomorrow? What are you going to do? How are you going to explain to everybody?"

They all looked at me, and I looked back at them. A slow smile came to my lips, and Alice said, "No! You're not! You... you can't! You're not going to pretend to be a girl, are you!?"

     I think he's technically my boyfriend."
     "... Okay, and this is bad because ... ?"
     "I can't have a boyfriend!" Christina exploded. She stood on her tip-toes and looked over the counter to see if her uncle had heard that comment. Convinced that he didn't notice, she looked back at Steph and insisted, "I can't have a boyfriend."
     "Why not?"
     "... Because ..." Christina stuttered, "Boyfriends ... and girlfriends ... they do boyfriend-girlfriend things!"

"Stop!" I told her. "It's not funny any more. I never said I wanted to be a girl! Or even pretend to be a girl!"

"Trust me, Marcie-Mark," Jane told me. "I'm your responsible adult. You're in my care. And I'm telling you, this will be good for you. You'll like it. You'll learn all kinds of useful things about girls, and you even can write a book about it when you're older.

Some days there is thick and double thick, then there is Simon - maybe he's clotted or just a clot?
