Here it was, the first time I was ever face to face with an actual ghost, and it was clear as clear could be: She was afraid of me.

This is a work of fiction, though it does contain actual data and some conjecture. If you don't like tears, I would suggest not reading this. This is my first attempt at a standalone story (heck, any story period) and would ask for any and all words of wisdom and criticism. I looked at my sister who was looking at me.

“You look cute" was all that she said. I stammered for words here I was standing here wearing a pink pleated mini skirt and a black turtleneck sweater along with a pair of black tights. I also had on a pair of her 3 1/2 inch platforms. She had one pair that she wore to parties that could be closed with a padlock that was the pair I had on and without thinking had closed the locks not realizing she had the keys.

Mollie Hawthorne, with an ‘e’ was fourteen today. She was having a party in the evening and she was looking forward to it with an anticipation she had never thought she’d feel again.

She bustled about the school with impatience, too excited to sit still for long let alone concentrate on boring chemistry or history. At fourteen what is history, something for old men to talk about? Mollie also had some history, although it was more recent than anything she was taught in school and more painful than anything before or since.

I looked out over the palace walls on this high vantage point and surveyed the land before me. Many times in the past I have come here to think things through and I had a lot to think about now.

Henry agrees to attend his wife's Girls' Night Out birthday party appropriately dressed, not knowing she has her own special reasons for wanting him there dressed that way. This story is the origin of another much longer one, "The Birthday Present."
