A Short Story

When I missed out a contract the year after our team got to the playoffs, all that was on offer was a contract in Japan. The Kobe Sunbears were looking for a big hitting first baseman, and it turned out that I could hit bigger than any of the Japanese guys on their team. One of their coaches was from the States and told me that I would do well. He was right.

Mrs. Winstead returns Lucy home the same night, after currently omitted events. Later, Peter and Lucy have dinner with Carol's family, and Peter agrees to try out Bikini Beach.

[Late Saturday]
“Which way are we going?” asked Carla.

I’d brought Roxy to a standstill where the Macclesfield Canal leaves the Trent and Mersey Canal near Kidsgrove.

“It depends on you.”

“Me? Why?”

“How many locks do you want to go through between here and Manchester?”

I was re-reading this story, when I started noticing how many characters I had introduced in it. To make things a little easier to keep track of everyone, I decided to create the list below. I know it's been a pretty long time since I originally posted this story, so there probably won't be a lotta folk using this list, but I do see a few hits on a pretty regular basis, so I decided to post the list anyway. Kaya stood in her room. Fear and uncertainty made her indecisive about what to do next. There were two messes that needed to be cleaned up. All of her makeup and the broken mirror on her floor, and the relationship between herself and her family. Those messes did need to be cleaned up but Kaya did not know which one to do first. The teenage girl wanted to make the right decision to make up for all the bad ones she had made today.

“We’re not objects!” Sophie chanted, backed by dozens of her friends and colleagues. “We’re not objects!”

“You go, girls!” A passer-by, a young woman in her early twenties, said, giving the picket line a thumbs up as she walked past them and into the vast concourse of Heathrow airport. Nevertheless, Sophie still felt uneasy.

I didn't remember when the radio had come on. Maybe it was back when the car did. I hadn't been listening then due to Mikey making small talk but it now had my attention.

Allie - The teenage years of Alexander Horten

November 29 - December 5, 2015

“In the end, it was a cruise ship called Bastion of the Seas that picked up our faint distress signal during one of their trips and made the decision to go off course and investigate after calling it in.

They'd lost the signal soon after and considered it may have just been a misread but the captain made the decision to keep heading for the last known location.

The flare had given them all the confirmation they needed. The last flare, though faint, led them straight to us.

I kept screaming. For help. In pain. In anger. I glanced down at Mikey who barely seemed to be moving. Ben had a twisted smile on his face. His eyes were red as the blood that had begun to stain Mikey's clothes. In the moonlight, it was clear to see that Ben was crying in creepy juxtaposition with the smile on his face.

I, Georgia, who was born George, am doubtless like all others of my age. I have no problems with anachronisms and old word forms and grammar, but I find difficulty understanding modern speech forms, which I can’t help but regard as illiteracy. I accept that language changes with time, but I don’t like it, and I think poorly of those who use what I can not help but regard as stupidity. So, I’m no different from what older persons have ever been.

Chapter Four – Motive, Means and Opportunity

Detective Steve Edwards now has enough evidence to confront Felicity Benson and charge her with the murders of the three men who assaulted her all those years ago but he is beginning to develop feelings for her. What will he do and how can he protect her against his boss Penelope Bishop who is also closing in on Felicity?

It's Saturday. After visiting Bikini Beach in the morning, Lucy goes to high school for marching band. She meets Fab, and joins him and June the rest of the day, meeting June's family.

"You're so cute!" Mom gushed.

Chapter Three – Hamburger Mary’s

Beautiful but damaged drag queen Felicity Benson continues her crusade of revenge which requires intrepid trans detective Penelope Bishop to travel to the scene of the crime where her partner, Steve Edwards, discovers incriminating evidence which he keeps to himself, at least for now.

PRIVATE INVESTIGATIONS

Although written as a standalone piece, Private Investigations involves many of the same characters as my previous story on this site, ‘Others Prefer It Cool’ and begins on the morning after the events described in that tale. So it’s not compulsory, but you might want to read that one first!
