The Lucky One: Luck Be a Lady Part 2

The Lucky One: Luck be a Lady Part 2

Last time: Fluke, Sarah, and Yaddie have gone into an alternate reality to deal with a chaos wave. They met a girl named Jean Grey who also was a superhero called the Phoenix. Now, they’re dealing with an alien invasion and the arrival of another Phoenix from yet another alternate reality . . .

My new friend Jean and I flew away from the alien command ship, towards what according to the sensors was another Phoenix. I was trying to project confidence, but I also thought about the fact that one of the aliens, a guy calling himself Gladiator, had given me a space suit complete with a small booster rocket, in case something happened to this universe’s version of Phoenix. He told me he’d got the stuff from an Earthman named Adam Strange, whoever that was.

The two Phoenixes came close to each other, and I could tell some differences. The other Phoenix was older, and her costume was mostly green with yellow trim, while the Phoenix of this Earth wore an all red costume with spikes on it.

I tried to get their attention as politely as I could.

The older Phoenix looked at me, and asked, “Are you responsible for my being here?”

“No. But I am the one who is supposed to fix things.” I replied.

She gave me a smile, and said, “Lucky you.”

“That’s my tagline” I replied.

“Well, let’s see how to fix this situation.” She stated.

The two heroines communed for a moment, and then the younger one went back to the alien fleet.

The older one said to me, “you are much more powerful than you think you are.”

“How so?” I asked.

“You’ve been thinking of your powers as affecting probability. But your power comes from a god of chaos, and chaos is one of the fundamental forces in any universe.” She told me, “Chaos is movement, it is choice, it is life itself.”

As she spoke, she showed me with her telepathy of the personifications of fundamental forces, including Chaos and Order.

“Whoa” I said.

I really didn't have a chance to process this before the younger Phoenix arrived, with Sara and Yaddie in tow.

“Good News,“ Sara said.

”You got the aliens to stand down,” the older Phoenix said.

“Never try to surprise a telepath,” the younger Phoenix chimed in.

“So what now?” I asked.

“I think it's time for us to leave, Fluke.” Sara said.

“Okay, you gals be good now.” I said.

As if waiting for us to finish our goodbyes, a portal opened.

For once, I didn't fall on my face on the other side.

As soon as I saw where I was, I almost wished I had landed on my face, as it would have saved me the embarrassment of what happened next.

We were in a field outside a large building, and just as we were trying to figure out where we were, a pair of unicorns came trotting out of the building.

Yes, I said unicorns.

Sara recovered first, and said, “Hi. We’re from another dimension, and we are trying to track down chaos magic. Can you help us? Can you tell us where we are?”

The unicorns turned into a pair of teen girls, and one said, “You will have to talk to our principal. As for where you are, we call this place MYTH. That stands for Magical Youth Training House.”

“Thank you. Let’s go talk to your principal then, and hope we didn’t myth our mark” Sara said

Both girls and I winced at the pun, and then we went inside . . .

To Be Continued . . . I hope . . .
