I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
And send it on its way.

I'm gonna wave that trope right off of my page,

'drea and Girls:
I'm gonna wave that meme right outa my arms,
I'm gonna wave that trope right outa my arms,
And send it on his way.

Don't try to patch it up

Girls:
Tear it up, tear it up!

Veronica:
Wash it out, dry it out,

Joanne:
Push it out, fly it out,

Emma:
Cancel it and let it go!

Girls:
Yea, sister!

'drea:
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
And send it on its way.

If a reader don't understand you,
If you fly on separate beams,
Waste no time, make a change,
Ride that trope right off your range.
Erase it out of the roll call
And drum it out of your dreams.

Girls:
Oho! If you laugh at different antics,
If you look for different schemes,
Waste no time, weep no more,
Show that trope what delete is for.
Rub it out of the roll call
And drum it out of your dreams.

Emma:
You can't light a fire when the woods are wet,

Girls:
No!

Joanne:
You can't make a weak premise strong,

Girls:
Hmm, hmm!

Veronica:
You can't fix a plot when it ain't quite good,

Girls:
And you can't fix a trope when it's wrong!

'drea:
You can't fix a premise when it’s too dour.
Or sweeten up a plotline when it’s turnin' sour

Girls:
Oh no! Oh no!

'drea and Girls:
If your eyes get awfully dim,
When you look for glints and gleams,
Waste no time,
Make a switch,
Drop that trope in the nearest ditch!
Rub it out of the roll call,
And drum it out of your dreams
Oho! Oho!

'drea:
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
I'm gonna wash that trope right outa my tale,
And send it on its way.

Girls:
She’s gonna wash that trope right outa her tale,
She’s gonna wash that trope right outa her tale,
She’s gonna wash that trope right outa her tale,

'drea and Girls:
And send it on its way!

Uh...yeah...sure!

Hysterical!!!

Emma Anne Tate's picture

I was ROFL and LOL’ing about. The restaurant staff, concerned, suspected a fit of some kind. But they were divided as to whether I needed a paramedic or an exorcist. I wanted to tell them it was ‘Drea’s fault, or at least point to my pad or make vague gurgling noises. But alas, my laughter precluded the first course and my closet door the second. What’s a girl to do?

Thanks for giving me a part in your musical, ‘Drea. Love ya!

Emma

You've got to have a dream

Lucy Perkins's picture

Talk about the moon floating in the sky
Looking like a lily on a lake
Talk about the bird learning how to fly
Making all the music she can make.

You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true

Sorry, I just thought of this song too, whilst I was chortling at the thought of the four of you, with the rest of us swaying in the background.

"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."

I'd never do that

Posted at wrong level

I'd never do that

Tropes are such fun! You can do so much to/with them, as long as you don't take them seriously.

Perhaps I should start a shelter for old tropes?
Of course they would have to put up with being "reeducated"

I love the song.

I love being in a bit part in 'Drea's song! I'm a hopeless tone-deaf singer so this is a charity act.

Gonna Rope that Trope ...

... and hang it out to dry.

Don'cha ask me why I let it twist in the sky ...

Gonna drag that trope right outta my head,
and make sure it never gets read ...

* Never? *
* "Well, hardly ever." *

Wait, wait! That's where I put my pinafore - it's drying on my clothes line.

(No, I don't have a song in mind, so don't hurt yourselves looking for any kind of a 'source tune. Well, OK, a bit of HMS Pinafore.')
