Labels

I was reading an academic work the other day and they classified transgender as "Tomboys" and "Sissies". I was wondering what the community thinks about these labels? I will put in my 2 cents after others have chimed in. I do know that there are several who have sissy in their name here, I want their input too.

Abomination???

This is quite interesting:

http://biblethumpingliberal.com/2011/05/19/you-can%E2%80%99t...

I hadn't taken it to quite the extreme that the author did, but he is exactly right.

The article mentions the Old Testament prohibition of homosexuality, but it is equally applicable to what the OT says about cross dressing.

There are lots of other examples of rules that people universally consider to be Christian commandments, when what they really are is cultural norms masquerading as morality.

Odyssey faith - my faith - a brief explanation

I get a lot of comments about the faith morality of Odyssey. I obviously support Christianity, but I do not believe it is exclusive, the only way to God. It is man who tries to limit access to God, not God.

True Christianity is the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Everything else is clutter. Faith is belief in God, a one on one relationship. Faith is God reaching out to us. For me Christianity is a good fit. THe problem with Christianity is religion. Religion is MAN making rules to limit God. Religion is the work of Satan to corrupt faith.

So tired of being asked to choose

I've been having an email conversation with my brother's pastor, who thinks this transition is a sin. I'm so tired of feeling like I'll never be accepted by my faith, and that I must choose between being a Christian, and being transgender. Ask me which leg I'd rather have removed, it would be an easier choice ...

Ah, well.

Was just looking at the local news for the week and found

That the Westro Baptist Church had been in town a few days ago. They picketed at the Easter High School on the East side of town (not to be confused with East Lansing though)

They were met with a wall of love and they showed up at 7 to 7:45. Who plans these pickets? What high schooler is really awake at 7 am? Sure they may be moving, but when I was in high school, I can't recall anything before 10 am.

CANDLES

Last Sunday I went to the CANDLES (Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors) Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana. I learned three things. Two are important to us.

1. Although Jews were victims of Nazis, not all victims were Jews. Only nearly 6 million of the 11 million were Jews. Among the other 5 million targeted by the Nazi regime were GLBT individuals. If we were there then most of us who visit this site would be victims.

Being a blessing

As I have noted before, I've been amazingly blessed in this journey, and now I would like to turn that situation around, and be a blessing in return. So this is my prayer at the moment:

Dear Lord, make me a blessing. Use me to bring good to the lives around me. And make me into the kind of woman who is a good example of what You can do with a willing heart.

Amen.

Is being trans a blessing?

I was listening to the radio the other day, and this woman was talking about being able to see blessings even in some hard times. Now considering she had been raped by her father, that's pretty amazing ability. So it got me thinking, can I find a blessing in being trans? Well, maybe there are some. I think I've become more patient of the failings of others, and more grateful for the moments of femininity I get than I probably would have been if I had been born fully female.

Maybe, as I grow as both a woman and a Christian, I will find even more blessings. I pray it will be so.

Hello and help wanted

Hi there my name is Dan (hi, Dan!) and I wanted to share a few comments about my story 'down the rabbit hole' as well as a few personal points. The initial premise came to me about two years ago with a dream that ended in me falling through a portal into a park. I didn't see any further in that dream because I woke up right afterward.

I am a second-generation Italian-American (well, one-half of me is), and I am sure that those of you who have Italian roots and celebrate Easter in the traditional way, you'll know that the big deal thing is (aside from the morning High Mass) is lunch.   Lasagna, hard-boiled eggs and green salad with asparagus (or salads with tuna), and then roast beef and lamb and roast potatoes, and for dessert - sweet Easter bread and chocolate eggs, and then ending with an espresso or a nice cappucino.

But, of course, none of that for me this time as I'm not at home. Darn...

Wednesday was a regular workday here in Manila, but it was the day before the start of a four-day weekend. Most everyone wanted to go home to their hometowns, so there's usually a massive exodus of people from Metro Manila going towards various other places in the country.

People Have no faith.

After reading several things about the fanatical religious right, I come to the conclusion that these so-called Christians are the false prophets Jesus talked about that will come in His name. Sodom was not destroyed because the people there had same sex relationships, but because they were lustful about it. There are 10 laws of God we are commanded to obey. These 10 laws are called the Ten Commandments. Things other than the 10 Commandments are from the secular laws of the time and incorporated in to the book we call the holy Bible to make the common people think they are the word of God.

Taluld Torah will be Open to All?

Based on some conversations during the last few weeks there has been a suggestion by Rami that we have an Torah study and discussions. If this is done it would be in the Forums section of this site. I would be the moderator, including what topics would be discussed and for how long.

--SEPARATOR--

Things to note:

1. You don't have to be Jewish to get involved.

2. No experience is necessary.

3. You may suggest a topic.

missing being able to attend church

I'm missing having a church to go to. I work Sundays, so that's just a no-go. There is one church near that has a Saturday evening service, but I've been reluctant to go because I cant seem to find out how they would feel about someone like me. I may just go, and if I'm welcomed, I will make it a weekly thing.
