Audrey Hepburn and I

New school year, new school!

To be honest it was quite daunting to come to the huge High School from our smallish Middle School. Fortunately there were two of us. Me and my fraternal twin sister. Why do people talk about “fraternal twin” when it’s about a girl? Anyway, there we were. Cary and Katherine against the world. Well, not really. Even if the big school scared us, which we’d NEVER admit to anyone else, we didn’t really have anything to fear. We usually found it easy to find new friends or at least gET along with people. We had very good grades without being pegged as nerds since we were good at sports as well. Both Sis and I had selected courses geared towards science and technology with future engineering degrees in mind.

As expected, there was a huge crowd milling around. Sis and I got lost at first and then we ran into an Audrey Hepburn look-alike. She really owned the style. Short hairstyle, black turtleneck, slim black trousers, and ballet flats. Body language was similar as well as far as I could see. Sis could hardly keep herself from laughing. As it happens, I’m a great fan of Audrey Hepburn. As it turned out “Audrey” both was heading to the same homeroom as Sis and I AND she’d been smart enough to print out a map before coming. We happily followed her lead. In my case very happily as I walked behind her and Sis.

Sneakers Or Pointe Shoes - Part 1

Is there something wrong with Tommy? Struggling with thoughts and urges seems like something normal for a teenager, but it feels like it’s all leading to a choice he’ll have to make… A choice that will decide who he is, and whether he even is a “he”.

A Bikini Beach Late Summer 09

A Bikini Beach Late Summer

By Daphne Xu
Part 09 -- Lucy and Ruth

Ruth and Lucy's ballet rehearsals dominate the week. Thursday evening is their dress rehearsal, and they perform Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Lucy and Ruth continue to visit Bikini Beach. A photo-shoot takes place Friday morning.

Possessed

To be honest I was worried about starting high school. All right, I was terrified. Middle school had been bad enough for my friend Phil and me. And that school was a good and smallish school. The high school we were going to was huge.

Fortunately I had a big sister that not only could coach us but, amazingly, was willing to. Though she did warn us that in school she would not recognize us or in any way admit she was related to me. After all she was the new head cheerleader.

The Hero, The Mouse & The Cheshire Pt. 15

Christine cracks her knuckles and looks at her opened laptop. She had a pile of notes sitting next to it as she prepares to start writing the movie script. She was wearing a pair of comfortable shorts and a light baby blue camisole. She was still on medical leave until she was fully healed from her operation. Even though she and Lache have been having sex on a regular base.

A smile appears on her face as she thinks about what they did last night. Lache was at work at the moment, so she had her place to herself for a while. Lache has been spending a lot of time at her place.

The Hero, The Mouse & The Cheshire Pt. 14

Cheshire looks at her family as they sit around at the dining room table. Christine was glowing and Cheshire could guess that Christine has been enjoying herself. It was a good thing that she couldn’t get pregnant, but then again she figures Christine would make a good mother.

She looks at Tizzy and a smile appears on her face. She was so proud of how Tizzy turned out. She had been a scared malnourished, beaten
little boy, who was ready to end it all. Now she was a grown caring woman with a child of her own and a husband.

An Unexpected Pastime — Chapter 5

Now with something to do these holidays, Sam and his sisters were going to require a few more leotards.

Once again, I'm sorry about the long delay on this. Along with personal matters, I had felt that I had written myself into a corner for a large length of time. I was previously writing this story as it flowed out from my fingertips, not really having an overall goal for it in mind.

However, I'm pleased to say that I've now planned ahead for the next several chapters. With this, I aim to produce chapters at a much faster pace. Thanks to anyone who stayed with me.

Please let me know of any feedback, be it positive or negative. It's very much appreciated.

Pointe Shoes, Chapter 3

Pointe Shoes, Chapter 3

"You're up early," Mauve said as she walked to me on the pier over looking the Gulf.

"Just thinking," I whispered as I held my knees tight to my chest.

"About what, mi amiga?" she asked.

"About school next year," I answered. "I'm a little scared about it."

"Can't blame you," Mauve answered. "Thinking about backing out of it?"

I stood up and skipped a rock into the ocean. Backing out, yeah, there were times when I thought about that option.

Pointe Shoes, Chapter 2

Chapter 2

"Have you heard the rumor?" one of the moms asked Aunt Amy in the wardrobe room.

"What rumor? she said as she worked on my tunic for my role in Sleeping Beauty.

"There will be a transgendered child attending the middle school next year," the mom said.

"Oh really?" Aunt Amy said before she told me to stop fidgeting.

"I swear I'm dealing with Meg," she said as she put another pin in the tunic.

"What would you think would happen if that child took class here?" the woman asked my aunt.

Pointe Shoes

Pointe Shoes

Editor's note: Pointe Shoes is a sequel to My Summer With Meg and Our Nutcracker Adventure.

I've always been mesmorized by watching Meg dance.

This night was no different.

Classes were over for the evening. Meg liked to go into an empty studio and dance for a few minutes, making up her own choreography as she went.

"Get off your little butt and join me Collin," she shouted as she was making a dance up to Kelly Clarkson's "Break Away."

Okay, I have to admit that was painful, I thought with a groan. “What? You mean the look… I reserve… for morons? Believe me Tommy… if I’m interested… in men… you have… nothing to worry about.”

Dancers Within, Part 3

This is the final part. Thanks for indulging me. Thanks Patricia Allen for proofing. And hopefully it starts on the right chapter!

Chapter 14

There were times when Kyle wished for a little normalcy.

But he had forgotten really what normal was. It seemed like everything was moving way to fast.

His mother filed for divorce from his father. He had no objections.

He still hoped his father would change, but he knew his parents would never get back together.

Dancers Within, Part 2

Part two of three. Thanks again to Patricia for the proofing.

Chapter 9

Dancing professionally, teaching and choreography were never really career goals Kyle had even thought about a few months ago.

His mother threw out things like being a doctor, a lawyer or even an engineer. He had the grades to think about those things in the future. Those were the type of jobs that pulled in “a lot of money”, his mother always said.

Dancers Within, Part 1

This is the sequel to His Secret. I originally wrote the stories in 2007-08 when the Iraq war was still raging. Thanks again to Patricia Allen for the proofing.

Chapter 1

It had been an unusual Christmas.

Two families sharing a house. Two families in the process of healing.

One family trying to overcome the death of a father who died of cancer a couple of years before. Another trying to heal from a father out of control and a marriage that fell apart.

His Secret, Part 3

This is the final part of the story. The sequel, "Dancers Within." will be posted in a couple of days. Thanks to Patricia Allen again for proofing. I've been trying to attach a photo to go with the story, but seem to be technology challenged,

Chapter 15

"I can't believe they wrote that on his locker," Claire said as they were waiting for their class to begin.

"What was written, where?” asked Ava Perez, who was another student in the class, but went to a different school.

"Someone wrote Ballerina Boy on Kyle's locker at school," Beth replied.

His Secret, Part 2

This is the second part of three. Again, thanks to Patricia for proofing.

Chapter 8

Kyle felt intimidated being under the watchful eye of Madam Kathryn.

This class was much more different than the one Miss Arceneaux taught. That one was more relaxed. This one seemed much more serious, even though it was still fun.

She watched almost every detail. She was a lot more "hands on" as Olivia put it. She grabbed his arm to show him how it was supposed to be in second.

He thought he had a straight leg in arabesque, only to have her push it actually straight.

Choices Chapter 1

Choices, Chapter 1

A story about a family with two boys aged 10 and 13, in which choice is a delusion and gender, an illusion. It’s a familiar theme in the TG literature, but this time with an unfamiliar twist.
