The whole group, a party of eight, met in the northern end of Siren’s Gauntlet an hour before dawn, a mostly-abandoned business district that was supposed to be torn down and renovated into an amusement park, though that was before the heroes and villains turned it into a perpetual battle zone along with the Vambracemen and Arachne Regime on opposite ends. As I watched the green light above the camera turn to red my stomach tried to rebel one more time. I didn’t want to do this. Our grief should have been a private thing, shared only with our family and the small community of our friends. Jan’s death had been hard enough without the media avalanche we were being buried under. I was about to interviewed once again when all I wanted to do was cuddle with Bea and our remaining children as we tried to comfort each other. Someone had to speak out though and I am much more accustomed to public speaking than Bea is.

Equipment malfunction has been with mankind since the invention of the wheel. Possibly before with the club, spear, bow and arrows. As science progresses and equipment is in-bedded deeper and deeper into our lives, the one constant is at some point failure will occur. Let's pray the whole tie rod steering mechanism doesn't fall out from under your vehicle while you're traveling down the road. Mine did and it wasn't a story of fiction. Obviously I survived.
