Beth woke to feeling warm and comfy in her bed. She stretched her arms above her head as she rolled over onto her back still under the covers. The spagetti straps of her purple nightie had bit into the one shoulder while she slept and she felt the strap loosen as she turned letting back in oxygen to that one spot. She had a smile on her face as she felt more than saw it was light outside and knew she was home.

“Shane.” I could feel the refusal in the way he said my name. The way that he is refusing everything I am.

“Steven….” I shiver but I feel Chris tighten his hold around me. God that helps so much.

“Why are you here? You think you’re welcome here?”

“Shut the hell up Steven.” Shawn says sort of snarling at him.

“Fuck you nerd, keep hiding behind you woman’s skirts. The little faggot shouldn’t be here.”

“Steven….” Uncle Roth says warningly.

“What? What you’re just here for what you can get Rothman. You never bothered with us before and now when things are all up in the air you’re here? The faggot’s here and….” He gestures at Chris. “And who the fuck is this?”

Chris just looked at him. “I’m your sister Shayne’s boyfriend.”

Beth was staring out the side window of her parents Ford Focus as they drove up to the house she grew up in. In the driveway with a puddle under it sat her grandfathers old Dodge pickup. The one tire was raised so it looked as if her father was trying to fix something even in this cold weather. Beth did not really care about the old truck all she wanted to do was go to sleep in her soft bed and wish the day had never happened. She could see it all in her mind exactly what she wanted to do.

After a bit, the woman that had the necklace came into the teepee. She stared a minute and then held out her hand. I sighed, took off the necklace, and handed it to her.

“Thank you. I wouldn’t have survived without it. I assume you are a member of the crew of the spaceship hid in the Tetons.”
