CHAPTER 69
She chatted to Tiff as well, and what else could I do but offer her a meal, after asking the other girls for their permission? I got the idea that Diane had very little in the way of a life outside her work, and while she showed some understandable reaction to the nastiness the girls had experienced, there was a real impression of grey bleakness behind her eyes. What had happened to her at sixteen had clearly wounded her soul in ways I suspected might never heal, but as she sat with us in the second dining room, over a tray lasagne prepared by Gemma, she started to open up. As Charlie and the rest poked fun, nicely, at Gemma’s taste in rugby players, I watched Diane slowly emerge from her shell.

39 - Five Recollections

It was only my second morning as Danielle, but it already just seemed normal to brush out and style my hair , and put on my makeup. I wasn’t sure how casually to be dressed today, so I just went out to the kitchen in my nightie and started preparing breakfast.

When I woke up I was in another world. It was a world of pains, strange feelings, more pain, indignities and pain killers that did not seem to work. Birgitta was staying with her cousin of a cousin and came to see me every day. I was very glad that no-one else saw me in this state. I was not a happy person for a week or more.

CHAPTER 67
The evening news became a fixed routine for us over the next weeks, but there were few updates. What they revealed, though, left several of my girls shaking. I wouldn’t stop them watching the reports, but I made sure I was on hand if they needed me.

In simple terms, the gang would meet up near somewhere like the Smugglers, watch for a likely target, then jump him in as violent a way as possible and drag him into a van.

There are some days in the middle of winter that are perfectly described using a single word. That word is ‘Dreich’. It is a Scottish word that means one or more of the following, ‘Bleak, miserable, dismal, cheerless and dreary.' If you add a biting wind that comes from straight from the Arctic ocean and you get the idea about just how it was that day.

If I’d have had any say in the matter, I’d have been in a pub with a big log fire, some good food and more than a few pints of good beer. But I didn’t have any say in what I had to do that day.

Christine goes looking for Cheshire. She and Lache needed to get back to Hollywood to continue working on the movie they had been hired to work on. She finally finds Cheshire in Mr. Bounty’s office along with Mrs. Bounty.

She knocks on the office door as she walks into the office “I’m sorry for interrupting, Mrs. Bounty and Cheshire, but Lache and I need to get back to Hollywood to finish the movie we’ve been hired to work on.”

Chapter 24.

Wishes was sitting at the kitchen table when I came into the kitchen with several bags of groceries. Dropping the bags with a sigh of relief I leant over and gave Wishes a soft kiss.

"Hello love, I didn't expect you to be home yet." I pulled back as I noticed the worried expression on her beautiful face. "What's up love?"

"Linda, I, I want to talk about our future a bit." Wishes stammered.

I sat heavily in the chair opposite her, a sudden chill in my stomach.

This chapter focuses on how Skyler deals with his changes both physically and mentally.

Part of the butcher’s tour was past my two great aunties’ houses on Lords Lane. They were two old widow women who lived in a pair of isolated semis both of whom had lost their husbands in the Great War. As a child I’d heard them described many a time as batting for the other side, but they’d been dead many a year before I realised that referred to them being suspected of being lesbians. Looking back I don’t think that was true. They were just a pair of lonely sisters who’d managed to find a man when they were young and were too old to find another after they lost them to Flanders’ fields. There was so great a shortage of men after the war the competition for them was fierce and they were ten maybe fifteen years too old by then. They treated me wonderfully and it was years before I realised I was the nearest they’d ever come to having a child of their own. It’s enough to make a grown man weep.

Part 21

On Monday I had a call from Gaurav who wanted me to meet him in town at lunch time. We met and he took me for a nice meal and then we went to a jewellry shop where he wanted me to choose an engagement ring. It was about time he had got around to it!

Chapter 23.

About mid afternoon we had a visitor, Wishes' friend Carrie called around to see her. I spent a few minutes making small talk with her but it was very clear that she wanted to talk to Wishes alone so after a few minutes I made my excuses and went out to the kitchen where I had left my laptop.

I sat at the table for a while and tried to make some sense of the work I had done last night until I heard what sounded like a slap.

The Story is about how Skyler deals with his changing life. The main character is Skyler (Skye as his sister calls him) who is growing his hair due to his circumstances.
I am sure everyone had a moment in life that impacts your whole livelihood like that Skylar is having his moment, let's see how he will deal with it ......
