I shivered as the sleeper stirred, then we both gasped. A light was suddenly switched on. "What the hell are you doing?"

I don't think I have ever felt so embarrassed in all my life, although the way things were going since being knocked off my bike, it could well happen.

We got back to the cottage and Stella paid off the taxi, she then offered me another drink, unwisely I accepted a small bottle of lager not thinking of needing the loo in an hour or two. However, I enjoyed it while it lasted and was nearly tempted to a second.

Chapter 9

The sun was really warm on my back as I lay there on the back lawn of the house. I was propped up on my elbows and reading one of the magazines that I had been assigned. I wasn’t keen on articles on how to please my man, or many other things but I was sure there was some sort of purpose for all of this. At least I hoped there was. As long as they didn’t test me on “20 ways to please your man in Bed” I would be fine.

        Christina could feel time stalking her all day. She'd called Steph last night after dinner to give her all the bloody details of their double date.

        Steph, of course, had been absolutely elated. She'd explained that the Clairmont Inn was a small bed and breakfast on the edge of town. Its dining room was the closest thing to an extravagant restaurant Oak Grove had to offer, and it was certainly the most romantic place anyone could have picked.

        Had Christina known this, she would have insisted that they go anywhere else, but it was too late now. While she was sure that the day was dragging for Steph, she could feel the minutes slipping away. She wondered if this is what it felt like to be on Death Row.

Have you noticed how time seems to hang when you're waiting for something, like a bus or a cab or Christmas, or time to knock off from work. Because you have time on your hands, you start to notice things that have always been there but had escaped observation.

Chapter 8

I felt good. This whole thing might not be so bad when all was said and done. She liked me. Meredith liked me and was interested in going out with me. I was floating on the air. Add to that the fact that my body never felt so good and it was easy to see why I was feeling that way.

Meredith looked over at me as we followed our guides, noticing my goofy grin. “What is it?”

“Nothing. I just feel great. Thank you for this Merry.” I hugged her tight.

She hugged back and laughed, “Now I feel like a hobbit.”

Synopsis: Confronted by someone who knows her secret, Terri's rage gets the better of her. she doesn't spill blood, but words, revealing a little more to the story.

I guess I must have looked a little scared at that realization; I know I felt it. I had effectively agreed to give up four years of my life for this. How in the hell had I not managed to figure that out until now? What the hell was I going to do? I didn’t want to be a girl for four years. I took a drink of my water. It was a big one and I almost choked on it. I coughed and the two girls patted me on the back as I tried to catch my breath.

This is a song that floated into my head this morning. If you can, try to imagine it as a capella with a slow-beat finger snapping in the background. The words in italics are meant to be heard in a deeper voice with more of a monotone than the regular text. This song kinda deals with...well...wanting to be a pretty girl. ;)

The test at the end of the week was fairly rough, on clothing, how to use make up and do my hair and colors. It pretty much told me what I know and don’t know. In fact I am not so sure that too many girls actually know all this stuff themselves but I had to know it. Meredith told me afterwards that she didn’t really know anyone who could answer everything and that enabled me to be graded on a curve. I was actually really thankful for that.

Somehow I made it through lunch without screaming. I was getting frustrated by the constant correcting. Nadia had whispered something to Gwen, who passed it to Meredith who smiled and nodded. I knew something was up and almost bothered to worry about it, but I had gone beyond caring. They were winning and now I was going along for the ride.
