I woke up gradually, coming out of a fog of discordant dreams. Dreams that I was a boy masquerading as a girl just so that I could get a job! It was obviously a dream because reality wasn’t that stupid.

I could hear voices in the distance.

Joan has a run in with an old "friend." Just for a moment, she begins to wonder whether or not the twins are hers.

Chapter 1 The Encounter

Her tale is not a new one. The idea that she would grow up loving makeup and dresses instead football and jerseys is as much a mystery to her as to you the reader. It wasn't an accident that she was drawn satin and bows but a gradual evolution.

Does everybody make the same one?

Here's a little ditty I put together over the last couple of days I thought may interest some. It's only short so there's no excuse for passing it by. If nothing else it'll hopefully make you smile and I'm sure there are some out there who would be interested if it really did exist...

        Christina lay in bed on her side with her arm around a pillow. She hadn't checked what time it was, but judging by the sunlight, she expected it was past noon. Her mind was so seized with despair and worry that she'd slept only a few fitful hours since Andrei and left her at her bedroom door last night. Her hand was numb from clutching her gear necklace. She'd been holding it so tightly and for so long that the teeth had cut grooves into her palm.

“Oh, Sandy? Well she is different. Oh sh … I mean ah … she told me she wanted nothing to do with boys … uh … until after she … uh …is done with school.” Mrs. J stuttered, then realizing what she said, I noticed she had some regret about what she had said. “That didn’t sound very good, did it?”

“No it didn’t Mary, that sounded horrible actually. What’s so different about Sandy? Why can’t she date boys? Is it her, or you and your husband, that don’t want her to date boys?”

A week or so ago I posted a short atmospheric piece triggered by an experience on the river bank. This is for those who found it too dark: it is, if you like, an antidote to Elegy. You inspired it, thank you.

        When Christina woke up early on Friday morning, none of her fear remained from the day before. Her last day with the Levchenkos hadn't gone as well as she'd hoped, but everything had worked out in the end. She was showered and dressed by the time the sun had come up. It didn't feel right to wear her jeans after last night, so she decided to wear the last skirt that Nina had picked out for her, and her plain white blouse.

        Anastasia was livid. She stormed into her room and slammed the door. The bed was covered with stacks of clothes and two open suitcases. One case was stuffed over the edge, and the other was only half filled. She didn't care what her father said; it wasn't his decision. She went to the chest of drawers and slammed each drawer as she searched for her makeup bag. The antique lamp that she'd bought at the County Fair teetered dangerously with each drawer slammed underneath it. She angrily pushed the items on her shelf aside, breaking her sophomore year soccer trophy.

Joan and Sam reacquaint themselves with the real world

I sat, last night, beside the river. My kayak had filled with water and I left the group to empty it. The blackness came over me in a wave, and this came out.

I love rivers, but this will not be my end.

As Book Three of the story of "Me And Sam" opens, the young teens return from their honeymoon. Joan wonders and worries how it's all ever going to work out.

When Kate and Rob wake up in each others bodies they have no idea why, how, or even who they are now. To make matters worse they have very little time to sort it all out.

Join them for a roller coaster ride around the seedier parts of London, and a visit to the Home of English Rugby, and pray that Kate does not have to play rugby, because that would be a disaster.

A little while before I had started writing Bobby's Rainy Day Adventure, I started creating this comic. I eventually got frustrated with it because creating the pictures felt like it was holding up the story I wanted to tell. When I started writing Bobby's story, most of the ideas from Alex's story went into it. I may eventually start on the comic again, but I thought I'd present what I had so people could see the seeds of Bobby's story. Enjoy!

Thick enough to spread...

 
There's something surreal about traveling at night on the freeway. The bubble of light around you, the white lights come toward you and red lights convoy alongside. The multicolor lights of cities and towns pass quickly with the hot yellow roadlights of exits and overpasses standing like sentries.

Oaths are made, alliances forged, friendships kindled, and enemies revealed, as Becca prepares for the final confrontation with the Cat Goddess and her "children." Who would have thought "making out" would lead to the beginning of the end?

        The old green truck had barely turned the corner onto Main Street when Andrei pulled over to the sidewalk and put It In park. Looking towards Nina and Christina, he said, "End of the line, ladies." Needing no encouragement, Nina pushed open the passenger side door and jumped down onto the sidewalk. Christina followed, closing the door behind herself.
