After supper, when she returned to her hotel, she felt so lonely that she broke down and decided to call Carson or Amanda, even at the risk of annoying them. Perhaps she could ask them to let her speak with Davey? But when she got out her phone and tried to use it, nothing happened.

I prepared myself for my first day back as a detective with North Yorkshire Police, after an extended leave of absence. Most of the women detectives went into work in casual or practical clothes, trousers and shirt/blouse with comfortable flat shoes, but I had decided that I needed to make a statement and was dressed to the nines in a Scarlet shift dress with black bolero jacket and with 3” heels. I had my hair cut, coloured, and styled the previous Saturday, along with a full beauty treatment, waxing, eyebrow shaping, nails shaped and polished a bright red to match my dress. Content with how I looked, I picked up my shoulder bag, took a deep breath and went down to my car to start a much changed career.

“Tammy?” Becky looks at the text message she just received from Stanley.

She couldn’t believe that Kat and the rest of the team were on their way to their location. All the message said, was that a pissed off Kat was on her way to them. When she responded about the rest of Kat’s team. She was informed they were heading to Walker, Kansas to stay with Kat’s sister.

“Tammy, where are you?’ Becky couldn’t find Tammy anywhere and the next thing she hears is the sound of a gun.

“Guys, Tammy is under attack.” Becky heads towards the sound of the gunshot.

“And even if his story is untrue, it’s not necessarily a sign of mental illness in children his age to make up strange stories. So I’ll refer you to a child psychiatrist, but I suggest you keep an open mind and check that mural in Davey’s bedroom from time to time to see if it exhibits any... strange behavior.”

Shopping for dinner together was a new experience for both of them. Phoebe pushed the trolley into the huge Tesco’s Supermarket on the outskirts of Shoreham with some trepidation. The last time she’d been shopping like this was at the end of her first year as an undergraduate. She and Lana had raided the last of their budget for an end of year party. Sky had invited almost everyman, woman and their dogs. To Phoebe, it had been like feeding the five thousand.

This was very different. For one thing is was not just throwing lots of things into a trolley and hoping for the best.

I don't know what I expected, but it was certainly not what I saw.

The upper ring was quite wide, and several people were lining each side. We started to push through the crowd, only to nearly be run over by a chariot!

Chapter 1.3

I looked at the chariot and gasped. It was black with gold trim and looked like something straight out of the ancient movie Ben Hur, except that it was not being pulled by four horses, but four ponygirls. They were obviously running as fast as they could, and another chariot was gaining on them. It was a race! And honest to God chariot race!

“Do you want to tell me what happened?”

 

“I don’t know,” Davey said. “Are you going to believe me? Mom and Dad didn’t.”

 

“I promise I’ll listen,” Dr. Menendez said.

“But why would Davey back up her story? Or why would she back up his, if it’s not true? I’m having a hard time believing it, but I’m having an even harder time figuring out why they would both tell such a far-fetched lie.”

“Shall we carry on?” asked Samantha after a particularly long kiss.
“Or do you want to sit here kissing all day?”

“Oh... that is a difficult choice, but upon reflection, please carry on. I want to see what more surprises you have for me,” replied a very happy Phoebe.

Once back on the road, a very determined Samantha took control of the car. She had a definite purpose in her attitude now that the weight of telling Phoebe about herself had been lifted.

Phoebe sat back and let Samantha drive. She clearly knew where she was going. Once they reached the small business park in Ford, she stopped outside one of the many identical units on the site. A sign on the wall said ‘Schwartz Brothers, Props and Theatrical Costumiers’.

My faith is the most important thing to me. It is now, as it was then. I gave my life to the Lord and it was my duty to spread his word and let his word inspire those who followed me.

As pastor of a minor but dedicated flock, I had responsibility for a small group of men and women who looked up to me as an exemplar of a good, Christian life.

“Let’s check it out,” Gina told us. “Marc, and John. Can you set up some teams to go down in landing craft?”

“Yes, we can,” John answered. “We’ll bet on it right away.”

We left the command center wondering what we would find below.

Georgi was in year eleven and just turned sixteen. She played the bassoon and was into chemistry. She was intelligent, played netball, wrote scifi and fantasy, loved dancing and made a lot of her own clothes which was understandable as she was six foot four, hugely bosomed and bottomed and had very wide shoulders.
