Chapter 22 Another Fun Night

‘Please call me if you can — I need to talk to you’.

I had to go downstairs to the bathroom and there were 2 girls chatting as I went inside. I was a little hesitant at first but since I was a bit uncomfortable I decided I had no choice. It was impossible to go into a mens bathroom these days dressed as I was and luckily so far I didn’t have any adverse reaction but I’d still had a few quizzical looks. Nevertheless I was feeling more confident each day..

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

I was sitting here waiting for our next client to arrive on the first Saturday I’ve had available in nearly a month while I looked at the few pages of my diary which Tan recently filled in. I need to find a better place to hide and secure it. I don’t mind him writing in it but sometimes I put stuff in it that I would rather keep secret for a while.

Chapter 21 Girly time.
Kate asked me to sit down on a leather chair whilst she sat on the sofa. I felt a little conspicuous sitting in a skirt and tried to be as feminine as possible. She said to relax and asked how I was feeling in this new role and in the new job. What could I say it was like a dream or a wonderful adventure and I not had time to take it all in. It all seemed like a blurr..

I can’t help but to wobble a bit as the effects of what just happened hit us/me Alecia stares at me her eyes sort of wide with looks so strange on a vampyre, her pupils have expanded until there’s just the pupil surrounded by a ring of the blue/grey that her eyes normally are. She get’s up from her knees and limps over to where I’m sitting on my knees beside Shaun.

“He’s hurt bad.”

She looks at me and there’s fresh tears running down her face making clean tracks in the dirt and the old tears of blood on her face. “I’ll do my best.”

Adversity, Love, Friends and Family define us.

When we finally returned home from our journeys, Tan seemed strangely preoccupied. Oh, we still slept together and we still... well, you probably know anyway, but he just isn’t himself. After a couple of days of my prodding and poking trying to learn what’s wrong without much success, he finally announced shortly after we were dressed to go in to the studio one morning, that we are going to see his sister... again.

"Ah, that would be Lord Falsworth, ectually." His upperclass accent certainly matched his snotty tone, as he snatched the hand I'd extended for the doctor. "But titles are such a bore, don't you think? Teddibly pleased to meet you both." His eyes swept over me, and then to Court, leaving a greasy stain. "But you can call me Jack. Union Jack."

My eyes narrowed at his rudeness. "How do you do, Jack. I must say, you seem very familiar to me -- you wouldn't happen to own any binoculars, would you?"

When the laughter and jeering died down, the class teacher told me take my seat, when I went to my usual desk the teacher asked were I was going, when I told him to my desk,he sneered and told me to sit on the other side of the class with rest of girls.

A Red Pair of Boots

The boots he handed me were. . .well, they were perfect. They were a red leather, with similar tooling to the boots I held in my hands, but they were long and had a zipper up the side. They had a three inch broad heel. They were also obviously women's boots.

It was raining now. I had the windscreen wipers on, but it was hard to tell if my blurred vision was caused by raindrops on glass or the tears which continued to flow. Suddenly there were lights ahead of me. Red lights and the tall yellow shape of a lorry, too close. I jammed on my brakes. An ugly laughter drifted across my awareness and one last phrase.

“You're mine.”

I looked at mum and said ‘What do you mean?’

Then mum paused and squeezed my hand and said that Gran had never gotten over the tragic loss of Judith that had a massive effect on her life and our lives. It had eventually driven dad away and Gran had not been able to show proper affection to anybody and particularly to Julie and I.

“Miss Raeburn, this is detective inspector Chubb. I caught something of your official opening on the telly this afternoon and may I say it was a most impressive showing.”

“Thank-you detective inspector, it's kind of you to say.”

“I only tell it as I see it Miss Raeburn. Speaking of which, I was over at the institute where your, er, sisters are being treated. I spent some time chatting to the doctors responsible for their care, suggested that you might be able to help. It seems they agree. They were wondering if you might be free to visit tomorrow.”

Chapter 16 The intrigue continues

I picked up my phone and scrolled through the telephone number list.

Until a few days ago that would have taken me all but 10 seconds but now I had at least one minutes worth. There was nobody on the list that had a number the same as this so I tried to call the number back but there was ‘no service’. Was it a joke from someone. Should I go or not?

“I'm sorry Miss Raeburn. We did everything we could, but it just seemed like she gave up.”

I nodded. A fresh tear trickled down my cheek and I brushed it away. I'd thought I had run out of them.

“There's another thing. The police are here. I'm afraid they want a word with you.
