Trailer Park Baby Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Sarah

I left his trailer and thought a lot about what had happened. In reality I hadn't bought the diapers for him, but for one of the kids in the park that I baby-sit. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought about how cute he had looked crying about the dog after he wet the diaper. I was surprised that he didn't argue more about wearing the diaper in the first place. I thought more about him, how cute he had looked and decided to see if I could him back into diapers on a more regular basis.

‘But mum that means we have a cousin.’ ‘What happened to him? What happened to Aunt Judith’s boyfriend?’

‘Mmm well Chrissy it’s a difficult story for me to tell since at that time the whole situation was so difficult for all of the family and the death of Judith was a terrible shock to all of us. It was so tragic.’

Chapter 1: Dave

I had just finished college and was looking for a cheap place to live, when I saw the ad for a mobile home for rent. I had lived in the dorms and an apartment and was tired of either seeing everyone’s or having everyone see my comings and goings. I went to see about renting the place and was surprised by the owner. She was about six-two, I on the other hand was just under five foot and didn't weigh one hundred pounds soaking wet. Inside the office I said, "I'm here about the mobile home for rent."

Chapter 33 Revisit the Memory Book

I turned the pages slowly looking at black and white photos of mum and Aunt Judith as small children with Aunt Judith in Grans arms and Granddad holding mums hand. It was a nice family photo and then there were some professional photos taken in a studio with some photos of Aunt Judith as a small girl. She was very pretty with long dark hair.

The representative took a step closer, standing head and shoulders taller than me and giving me a close up look of his broad chest and two arms that were bigger around than my thighs. I let out a shuddering breath. I was tempted to reason with him, but some instinct told me to hold off, that this would be better if the initiative came from him; from them. I swallowed down my growing fear and slowly looked up into hazel eyes and finely chiselled features. Come on Liz, something to break the ice. Could that work? I took a chance and forced a quavering smile.

“You know it's a damn shame you're not straight.”

April's Fools Daddy!

My head leaned back in the seat as I tried to catch a few hours of sleep. The flight from Thailand was a long and uncomfortable one. I was sitting on a Donut pillow as my nether regions were still tender from the SRS I had three weeks earlier. I thought about the long journey that brought me here and the bitter words that were said by my father the day I left home.

Angela took us to the waiting room where she sat us and said that it was best if we let Gran get some rest whilst they kept an eye on her. She said she could try to arrange somewhere for mum to sleep if she wanted to stay all night. Mum accepted after a bit of pressure from me.

The light on my answerphone flashed a greeting at me as I walked through the door. Just the one message. I dumped my bags on the sofa and pressed play.

“Miss Raeburn? Doctor Marston here. Your sisters. I wonder if you could take the time to come and visit tomorrow morning. Rather urgent.”

Chapter 31 Fruitless journey

I was shocked to see it was my sister Julie who had obviously just managed to catch the train since she was looking disheveled. Julie looked at the guy who had made the remark and just said ‘Chicks are hatched from eggs so who do you think you are talking to?’

He shut up and turned back to his friends and then we carried on down the carriage to find our seats. Luckily there was a spare seat across the aisle because somebody missed the train.

I said ‘What’s wrong why are you here?’

Tuesday June 26

Dear Diary!
I can’t figure this weather, today was actually quite cold outside! This became especially apparent when I heard Paula giggle as we were having lunch at the park again. I couldn’t quite figure what was so funny at first until she pointed at my chest. Both my nipples looked like they were trying to break out of the confinement of my, I guess too tight, tan polo shirt! How embarrassing! Luckily there were not a soul within sight but I still walked back to the car in fast pace with my arms crossed over my chest. I would probably have run if I could but the shoes don’t really allow any sprinting!

Chapter 29 Lunch Chat

I thought that Jessica was awful to say such an unkind thing and I was worried that she might be planning something sinister.

She had just glared at me and I felt that she meant every word. I decided that I should confront her later rather otherwise I’d worry and not sleep very well. I felt she had a love/hate attitude towards me and maybe it was that she felt insecure or that she felt that I was a threat. Whatever I was thinking about what she might mean.

Chapter 27 Dinner discussions

I was taken aback for a few moments and I looked across at Julie who was sitting next to Gary. Her eyes fixed with mine and I could sense her saying ‘be careful’.
I said ‘Of course but as long as it’s not too personal at the dinner table.’

He looked at Julie then turned to me and said in a quiet voice ‘Chrissy I hope that you don’t mind me asking but did you deliberately adopt the style and look of your Aunt Judith to try to please your Gran or is it just a co-incidence?

Mum left the door ajar and I could see them through the crack. I stood still and looked in the hall mirror. I looked OK but not perfect. We should have come on a better day when the weather was warmer. My legs were cold and my tights felt damp. My nose was red with the cold wind outside. No wonder girls are always turning up the heating in the office and wearing cardigans.

These are the diary notes of a young man whom after taking a summer job experiences changes beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. It also suggests that there may be magic out there, not in the form of dramatic hocus-pocus but a more subtle one.

And sometimes that magic can come from something as inconspicuous as a pair of — Red Shoes.

Somewhat apprehensively I answered ‘Hi’

‘Where did you disappear to tonight we were just warming up?’

I looked past the bright headlights and it was my boss Kate Harper. She quickly beckoned me to get inside the car and then wound her window down to give the guys a piece of her mind as she drove off.

I was so relieved and yet I felt a cold shudder down my spine. ‘Put on your seatbelt. I thought it was you as I pulled out of the railway station’ she said. ‘What happened. Where are the others? What were you doing alone?’
