“I…” Part of me is wildly looking for an excuse and the other part is waking up like the real me curled up crying inside just say someone open up the drapes inside the dark room I’ve been trapped in and I…I can maybe…maybe just take a chance…look outside…be me…?

“Okay…okay…”

I can do this right?

“Good the bathroom is upstairs and on the left.”

I head up and I’m shaking…I look at myself in the mirror and I take the wig out of my jacket pocket and shake it loose and try to get it to look okay and I get undressed and stare at myself…not at this stranger that only sort of looks like me in the mirror and then mask falls off and I grab a towel and I start crying into it to muffle the way that everything feels right now.

That’s not me looking back at me.

Okay one thing’s pretty clear and that Ryan seems way, way more together than me.

It’s actually kind of nice in that way.

I lean back in the chair I’m in and sort of hug myself and think and I’m still doing that when he comes back and he looks at me.

I like Frank’s old Crown Vic, back when I was a kid we had a coupe of police officers are neighbors and all the cop cars were the big old Crown Victoria’s. It’s as clean inside as out and the there’s this smell of one of those coconut air fresheners lingering there.

He spends a good deal of time in his car too. I see a small double picture frame of Robyn and Frank and his late wife Mary on the dash. The one concession is a newish stereo in the car with the satellite radio in it.

We drive down to the canal and it’s absolutely pleasant. I love these big old cars they have this feeling when you ride in them like you’re just kind of floating and honestly they’re just nicer.

We went home and I actually spent a lot of the time that week helping out with things around the house.

Getting pumpkins and hay bales and all those electric lights for things and Dad does go all out for things like this and stuff.

And getting the boat garage cleaned up for my friends to come over and the kids that’ll be there because they’re friends of my folks or Aunt Els. They’ll want to have their adult fun and stuff and we get to have our stuff.

I’ll admit that I’m kind of a full on geek with some stuff too.

Then it’s me sending all the computer files and videos off to get looked at by the Ark Angels and I’m done for the day and I’m pretty wiped out myself so I can only imagine how the others have to be feeling.

It was a really good way to start my day if early getting to meet and finally talk to Angel my cousin from Ontario. She’s a good kid in a bad spot and adding in that matches and gasoline moment of figuring out you’re not the you that you thought you were.

It was a joy to just talk and meet her and chew the fat with her and everything as we cooked and to have Giselle there with me as I was doing up the cinnamon rolls and teaching Angel really sort of made my morning all the more bright.

Antifreeze…Finale.

The rest of the day was spent setting into mom’s at the guest room and us getting to take some time to rest before we all head out for the few things going on at evening and night here in town at memorial day.

Chris wears his uniform and so does Uncle Rothman who was in Vietnam. It’s interesting they’re both doing things together getting ready, watching the sort of regimined way they do everything is just. Well it’s really defining them in a good way for me. And Ben…I’m sitting on the couch hugging Stacy while we have some more chocolate and coffee and Uncle Roth and Chris are both answering his questions…they’re not graphic but they’re still honest and he’s got such a little-man look there.

We both kind of melt when they’re showing him how to shine his shoes. Oh my god he’s such an adorable little guy. He has this little boy look of concentration when they're doing the spit and polish thing.

The first few days I’ll admit to being totally in love with where I’m living and being afraid of it all at the same time. Lizzie did take me to Halifax again the next day after the party to a medical prosthetics shop and she bought me breast forms that getter fit my body size.

So I’m a c-cup now and these are really made of that new silicone stuff and are flesh colored and they even come with a medical adhesive. No not like the stuff in those internet stories that seems to be like superglue but the stuff is water proof.

The Decision

Summary: At school, nine-year-old Daryl is treated like a non-person by his peers and has been bullied in this fashion for years. With no friends, he only finds happiness once a year, trick-or-treating as Princess Stephanie. No one saw Daryl on these evenings, and only his parents knew the truth. Every kid knows costumes are for Halloween, and the rest of the year you are not supposed to wear costumes. What happens when you decide the outfit you wear every day is a costume?

Stephanie decides she can no longer live only on Halloween. Stephanie learns about friendship, but struggles to be accepted by peers and her parents. In the name of friendship and acceptance, Stephanie must stand up to the bullies. Will they force her back into the Halloween box where her costumes were kept for years, or will she find what she has always been looking for? A life where people see her for who she really is.

Iggy’s looking not that well as she looks at me and she looks at the cops and she sort of pulls herself up to where she’s sitting and she’s pulling her legs up. I sit beside her and she does this little lead against me and I slip an arm around her behind her back.

She’s quiet for awhile and just looking at her I can see her pulling away and getting distant like she’s lost inside her head.

“Iggy?”

“I was five…? I think when he first started…he’d tell me I was pretty…told me that I was special his perfect little girl.”

Thirteen year-old Taylor Landt’s step-mother believes that he should be the next great football player for the high school he’ll be attending in the fall.
