Saturday morning after yoga Hailey pulled Kelli aside.

Part 1 - Dinner and return to the hotel.

After practice was over, the girls, Mrs. Madison and Leslie Rhymes went to the nearest Bob Evans restaurtant. Mrs. Madison ordered hamburgers, French fries, cittage cheese and milk for the girls. Leslie Rhymes and Mrs. Madison just ordered a chef’s salad and coffee.

Mark lives in a world much like our own.
With the added benefit of people having access to magic.
When Mark comes into contact with a certain aspect of magic his previous boring life is about to change forever.
It is time for him to fall down a rabbit hole that is deeper than he could ever imagine.

Breakfast went smoothly. Rebecca had kept an eye on his coffee, but it hadn’t been needed. He’d drunk every drop of the coffee, obviously relishing each sip of the limited caffein he allowed himself. He’d eaten his food, as well, somehow finding joy in his healthy food. Rebecca would have liked to believe it was due to her own cooking skills, but her interaction with that grapefruit had been limited to a single swift knife cut. Most likely, he’d simply trained his tongue to actually enjoy those tastes.

Chapter 1 - The town picnic resumes.

Sunday morning dawned early, for the people of the city of Pine Forest and of the county. Church was a very important part of Pine Forest life. The people were getting up, taking their showers or baths, and getting ready to go to mass. There are three churches in Pine Forest; the Catholic church, the Lutheran church, and the Episcopal church.

Just suppose… If a writer met his creation face to face…

Shauntelle Brannon lay on her shabby bed in the small, dingy room she shared with another girl, Valerie Evans.

Valerie was out working the street at the moment, not that any of them had much choice about it, as each of the seven that lived in this old three bedroom house on the edge of town had all been hooked on a variety of legal and illegal drugs over the last two years or so.

Things were progressing nicely

The topic of the day in 'girl 101' was their wardrobes. Their instructor Marissa had told them that she would be starting to bring in basic items from discount and second hand stores for each of them. By the time they got to school they would all have a decent, if generic wardrobe to build on. First though she wanted to review what she considered a good basic wardrobe.

Seeing Erin oh so casually bring forth that little flame, then snuff it out, showed that there did seem to be magic still in the world.

She and Erin sat in the kitchen at the gorgeous oak table, chatting over cups of tea just like many often do in the early evenings.

"I've been wondering, Erin," Stasia inquired, "Just how long have you been able to do magic?"

It was the best truck stop sandwich I’d ever eaten. The bread was stale, the lettuce wilted, and gods only knew the deal with the egg salad, but it was solid enough to keep me from shaking to pieces.

I sat in the corner of the Sheriff's office and pulled the blanket they’d given tight. The events leading up to that point circled in my head; one moment I was being held at gunpoint, and the next I was in a ditch, screaming my lungs out. Between them were several hours and twenty miles into the next county no-one could explain.

It must have been a demon who dreamed up a life regarded with male presumption. From the prescribed stoicism placed on a first born son, to the stifling collar of the school uniform, every moment was one of irritation. Yet I followed the path of least resistance, for no other reason than to lessen the blow. To conform was to evade conflict until such time as it was necessary.

Chapter 1 - Naomi and Jim patrol separately.

Ruth Watkins was already making breakfast when Naomi came down in her uniform.

"I have french toast and sausage links, Naomi."

"I will have two slices of french toast and two sausage links.”

“Coming right up,” Ruth said, with a smile.

When Naomi was through with her breakfast, she went out to her suv. She picked up her microphone.

"County 300 checking in. I am on my way to pick up my squad."

“10-4 county 300.”

Imagine being on vacation, except there’s nobody around, and you’re stuck in a single room. Such was life on the sofa, nursing the aftermath of the accident. There were only so many chat shows and soap operas I could endure before going insane, and after three days I was at my limit.

What if all religions were true? What if those gods were returning? What if they decided they needed an emissary to ready the world for their return? These are the questions that inspired this story. This story is also the world in which I set my story "A Friend in Deed" in. Originally, it was a scene that helped me to define this story.
