Chapter Six: A Subtle Shift

David woke to the soft rays of morning light streaming through his window, casting a warm glow over the room. The scent of fresh morning air filled his nostrils, and he could hear the distant chirping of birds. His mom was still asleep beside him, her breathing steady and calm. Smiling to himself, he climbed out of bed carefully, not wanting to disturb her. He could feel the softness of the sheets against his skin as he gently pulled the covers up over her shoulders before grabbing a fresh set of clothes and heading to the bathroom.

Karan was a typical college student at Zenith College in Aurangabad—spirited, easygoing, and known for his unusually long hair that fell below his chest. Having maintained it for years, he was proud of his thick, dark locks. Often, when strolling through the Aurangabad East area or riding his bike past Skylark Towers, he would tie his hair up in a low ponytail or simply let it flow behind him. His friends—Neha, Anjali, and Sanya—had teased him about his hair many times, but their playful jabs were never anything he took seriously. Until one day, their teasing took a sudden turn.

"What are– what you doing up?" he asked her, trying to sound casual, but failing.
He sounded nervous, gave off guilty vibes.

"I had to pee," she said. "What else would I be doing up?"
She gave him a suspicious look. "What are you doing up?"

"Nothing, nothing," he answered, a little too quickly.
"Just couldn't sleep. That's all. Heheh."

Confusion spread throughout the room as members of the family began looking around at each other.

"The Prince?" the King asked me and I could only nod.

"That's preposterous," the Queen said to no one in particular.

I watched Nicholas and Theodore briefly glance at each other before turning their attention back to me.

After flubbing a powerful incantation, meant to give newly coronated Demon Queens the wisdom of their ancestors, Devilla Satanne awakens to memories of her past life as Jacob Divington, a human from Earth. Devilla knows her terrible behavior is beyond forgiveness, but maybe she can still make up for her past mistakes? She just needs to make sure the events of the game unfold correctly. Though there is one little detail she'd like to change - the part where Devilla herself is killed or enslaved!

Jack was greeted warmly by Victoria who pulled him into a tight embrace warm with feeling and regard, as soon as he arrived at her door. Though he was slightly saddened to think that really she had greeted him as she would any of her girlfriends. Still, their relationship was new to them both and complicated making Victoria's greeting understandable to Jack, who soon forgot that thought, so distracted was he by the fluttering of his heart as he leaned his head on Victoria's shoulder and Victoria's heartbeat, fast like his own as she pulled him ever closer to her.

A Tense Departure: Raj’s First Day

Raj couldn’t stop fidgeting with the collar of his crisp new uniform as he stepped onto the aircraft. It was his first day as a flight attendant—a day he’d dreamed about since childhood—and yet a knot of tension coiled tightly in his stomach. The weight of the cabin crew badge on his lapel felt heavier than he’d imagined, and he sensed the other flight attendants watching him the moment he boarded.

Jack’s Ranch, infirmary:
Debbie, Silvia, and Selina were tending to the injured. Julia, Gina, Tizzy, Tizzy’s husband, Arnold, and several farm hands were either suffering from sword wounds or gunshot wounds.

Even some of the wolves were injured and being tended to. Haylee was tending to the wolves since she could get close to them without being bitten, and Rae was helping the wounded into the infirmary.

Arjun had always been proud of his hair. It was thick, dark, and fell in smooth waves well below his back—far longer than most other boys in college. He often left it open, allowing it to flow behind him when he walked. Whenever anyone commented, he would dismiss them with a smirk and continue on his way. He believed that nobody should dictate how he looked.
