Chapter 104
The gun range. A hike and Naainish.
A visit.

Yesterday had been an up and down day. We found that Peshlakai was still in the picture. But Uncle Gaagii told us that he knew of someone that could have “a talk” with Peshlakai if need be. We also found out that the guy that I was supposed to be a grad-assistant for, Dr. Kilmer, was about to go before a faculty review board.

We had used the mud pool to try to help both of us relax, and it worked. We also found out that next Friday would be the last barbecue of the year. That made us sad.

The Sunset was an excellent one, but the storms building to the west showed that we were going to get a thunderstorm or two. As the storms approached, I warned everyone to get off the cliff, and all but one guy did. He wanted one more picture. And that turned tragic. Lightning struck him, and he died.

Sunday morning when I woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking and Ajie looking down at me with that cute smile on her face. I smiled up at her, and said, “Morning lover.”

She bent down, kissed me, sat back, and said, “Good morning sweetheart.”

What next?

“Thumping Hearts, Broken Hearts, Hearts United"

Having your best friend die is rather unsettling, especially if it quite literally is in your arms.

Mary and I had been talking in the office when she suddenly had a massive heart attack, uttered a few confused words about me and heart and then collapsed. I caught her but before I, or anyone else, could do anything it was too late.

She was a great loss not only to me personally and for her family, her husband Pablo, sixteen year old José Maria and fourteen year old Cory. The publishing company we worked for, “Descartes Publications”, was just as badly hit. Mary had been the “handler” for one of our most profitable authors and she had kept the contacts with the anonymous author very close to her chest. As it turned out she was the only one in the company that knew the true identity of “Corazón Tenderheart” (or as on the books Corazón Tender❤), bestselling author of “Thumping ❤❤, Broken ❤❤, ❤❤United” series of books. In my opinion the soppiest, most braindead romantic drivel ever written, or at least published.

Coming out from undercover - Part 9 -Finale

Mary and I spent three days talking about everything to do with us. One sticking point was her son and another possibly bigger one was her parents. How they’d accept me was a big unknown. She had her doubts that they would accept me and it was fairly obvious that she was being torn apart internally over the subject. She talked very little about it but I could tell that it might tear us apart. How that would affect me was concerning but I knew that… well, what would happen, would.

We also discussed our futures. I had the job offer from Sir Richard but there was still the issue of Mary/Caitlin’s future and where were would be based.

Chapter 103
He just won’t go away. A meeting.
Stay away from thunder storms.

Classes had ended for Summer Quarter, and we had celebrated with a good foot massage followed by a Nunzio's pizza. On Friday my meeting with my counselor and the guy I was supposed to be a grad-assistant for went to hell in a hand-basket. First Amy, now me. Why were we being attacked like this?

We went up to the Crest to walk and relax, and we had our first lovers quarrel. Then after a talk, a pizza, and a bottle of wine things we were back to normal.

Amy had talked to Vickie, and after she hung up, Amy said, “I guess that the woman from the nursing licensing board that gave me a hard time is related to ...

Jessie's Girl

Inspired by the song Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield, high school student Rick finds himself attracted to Jesse's new girlfriend and becomes extremely jealous. However, things turn for the weird as Jessie denies the existence of the girl sending Rick into a world of confusion.

An early Halloween short

Thirteen is an awkward age, stranded somewhere between ‘just a kid’ and ‘old enough to know better’. At thirteen Halloween costumes are the peak of uncool; trick or treating is something for babies, and high school parties are a long way away. But that wouldn’t stop Grayson from making the most of the holiday.

The notice board, in keeping with tradition, is tired and worn. With chunks of the cork knocked out, drips of paint from various attempts to liven up the entrance to the community centre, and a small selection of “local happenings”. It kinda shows we’re one of those villages that’s just far enough off the beaten track to be a bit dead.

I love my history class, but as I looked around at my classmates, I realized that I was pretty much the only one paying attention.

Not that I totally blamed my classmates, as it was the last day of school before spring break, so most of them have ... other things on their minds.

So did I, but I tried and focus on our teacher anyway ...

“All right, let’s just do a quick review of what we’ll be covering when you come back before you all run away on me.” Our teacher said.

Coming out from undercover - Part 8

ACC Bishop called later in the day with some news. She told us that she’d managed to get a prominent Journalist to agree to interview me on the understanding that no manipulation of my words would be done post interview. We all felt better for this as despite my former colleague being arrested and charged with numerous offenses, the press seemed to be having a feeding frenzy with my past. Many facts were being reported about me, most of which were simply fiction. This made me angry. Mary did her best to calm me down and tell me that my side of the story would be told in due course.

The she asked,
“Did Sergeant Pratt go anywhere in the house apart from the hallway after you dialled ‘999’?”

“No Ma’am. I made sure that no one went anywhere else. I didn’t want to contaminate the crime scene.”

This is the story of a mother and her child. She gave birth 18 years ago and was sure she was having a girl. But there were complications and this is the story of how that cosmic mistake got rectified.

I was studying my notes for my Chemistry final when I heard my Mother's voice as she came down the stairs.

"Happy birthday my darling boy! How does it feel to be 18 and only three days from graduation?"

My father was admitted to the hospital and I, without any fight, was admitted into a cell at juvenile hall. I wasn’t as miserable as I thought I would be. I was held over the weekend without visitors.

Chapter 101
The box. What do we have?
The dance competition.

The Friday barbecue had been fun. Chief Tom and Vickie were there, and we found that they had come up for the dance competition. We even took time to work on their Navajo while we ate.

Saturday, Ajie and I had overslept and didn’t get breakfast before we left for the dance competition. When we were finally there and were walking through the vendor area, we stopped at one of the vendors that sells beaded jewelry and pottery, but they happened to have a hair-pipe bone choker with silver for sale. We bought it and took it to Mr. Yazzie. And we found out from him that Kilchii Nez had made part of it. Ajie and I went back to the vendor that we’d purchased the choker from and found that they had a wooden box that they had gotten at an estate sale.

What was in this box?

It looked like what was in the box was tools used by a silversmith. There was also a cloth bag in the box, and it looked like it contained tools that a silversmith would use to make various marks on silver pieces. As we looked at the contents of the cloth bag, I handed one to Ajie to look at, and as she did, she asked, “Kai, is this what I think it is?”

Chapter 100
A good barbecue. A new choker.
The dance competition.

On Friday we’d gone up to the resort for the barbecue, and on Saturday we were going to the dance competition near Taos. We were going to see Dibe dance in maybe her last competition.

But there was something else that was drawing me to the competition. What was it?

Coming out from undercover - Part 7

Before I could render a full explanation to the single officer in the first car, another Police car drew up at the house. Inwardly, I groaned when I saw the officer getting out of the driver’s side. It was none other than 'Ian 'I'm not one' Pratt. He was the class bully when I was at Hendon. His Sergeant's stripes shone brightly in the light from the porch.

He entered the hall and looked hard at me. Then he looked again before turning away to speak to his colleague.

“What is the problem Sadik?” he asked.

“We have this person here claiming to be an undercover police officer. She had only just started to explain why she's on our patch unannounced.”

Chapter 99
Cousin Ahiga. The Eagles. A hike.

The past few days have been crazy, Amy finally has her New Mexico Nursing license after a run in the someone from the licensing board. And some serious soul searching that included a visit with two Eagles, a meditation session at the bonfire, and a hike to the sacred place, where we both received new meteorites.

A trip to Taos turned interesting when we ran into Uncle Paul’s Cousin Ahiga at Mr. Yazzie’s shop as Mr. Yazzie was trading for another piece of my Great-Great-Grandfather Kilchii Nez’s silver pieces.

The two Eagles. Hmm. Were they local and just happened to find us? Or did our two feathered friends from back home follow us out here?

It was Friday, June 22 during the end of season JV baseball game to determine the county championship. The score was 2 to 3 in favor of the other team. There was a man on first with 2 outs at the bottom of the last inning. The pressure was on. Kyle stood at the plate staring down the pitcher. The pitcher was clearly sweating as he kept wiping his brow. The first pitch was a ball. Kyle had almost swung at it. The next ball was a strike, a real whiffer. Kyle began sweating. Soon the count was 3 and 2. Kyle then whacked 3 foul balls. Everyone held their breath as the next pitch came in. As the pitcher wound up, Kyle took a deep breath. As the ball flew to the plate Kyle decided it was a perfect pitch. With every bit of his strength, he swung for the sixth time this at bat, exhaling sharply as he did so. The CRACK echoed through the ball field. The ball sailed high for the center field fence. All eyes were glued onto the ball.

At This Rate I'll Never Turn into a Girl! 3 [End]

The next morning I had a bit of a headache. I went to the bathroom and took some of my sister’s pain medication. For some reason, they came in a little foil pack with individual pills labeled with different days. Strange!

I showered, using Sarah’s body wash because I was out. As I applied it to my skin I felt a strange tingling! I checked the label to see that it had a special exfoliating formula.

Webster’s dictionary defines Speed as the fallowing: the rate of change of position along a straight line with respect to time over a set distance. In other words, the quicker you can get from one place to another. The question is what do you, do when your family has spent the last two generations in search of ways to accomplish this goal faster and faster. Would do you do when the family business is the search for more Speed. For Robert ‘Robby’ McGuire the answer is easy. You grab your sister and strap on a pair of Formula One racecars then go for broke.

How I Spent My Summer Staycation

What I Did On My Summer Staycation

My father was an electrical engineer whose company did a lot of business with a company in Japan. This meant he made several trips a year to the company based just outside Tokyo.

After telling my mother and I stories about how nice it was there, he decided to take Mom there for two and a half months the remaining two weeks of June, and July and August. They made plans for my sister and me to stay home and my aunt would live here to watch over us for those two months.
