Willow was concentrating on the music. She was listening to the others as she played. The songs were a mixture of the album tracks, but with more of the live album content as they moved from ‘Child in Time’ to ‘Woman from Tokyo’. She glanced across to the others, to see Geoff with his eyes shut and mouth open. Gerry had a big grin on his face.

Spring was late that year in the burgeoning town in which I had arrived, somewhat precipitately, almost twelve months before. Through March and April, cold and snowy weather prevailed in the eastern two-thirds of the country, though warmer temperatures than usual were reported in most of the remaining states.

Book 2 in this series, and one of two direct sequels in the whole thing. Whether Jimmy wanted to or not, Peggy has made a new friend. I mean, how much trouble can girls really get into? Sounds like the newest Baker sister is about to find out.

My name is Talon, I'm fourteen and I live with my mother and my aunt, both are owners of the famous Romani Ranch. A ranch that is world famous for a special brand of milk called 'Chateau Romani'. My mother and aunt inherited the ranch when my grandmother passed away last spring. 

The cafeteria buzzed with its usual lunchtime chaos, a symphony of clattering trays, blended conversations, and the faint undertone of the kitchen staff calling orders. David navigated through the maze of tables, balancing his tray of questionable lasagna and apple juice as he spotted Tony waving from their usual corner table.

Chapter 16: First Day of School

The rest of the summer had been a whirlwind of self-discovery for Yuqi. Between exploring the books and scrolls in her mother’s chest, adjusting to her transformed body, and reconnecting with her family, she’d hardly had time to think about the impending school year. But now, as the first day of sophomore year dawned, the nerves that she’d pushed aside all summer hit her like a freight train, leaving her with a lingering sense of self-doubt.

Then after sniffer her armpits for ‘boomerang smells’ standing up on a crowded bus she goes into her selling routine for Ariel Platinum with the odour removing power of Febreze and its built in stain removers. I think that’s what the blue bit and the red bit are supposed to be. The advertisement then closes with the selling routine just like the other one. Then right at the end a voice over comes on both of them saying ‘Always keep away from children.’ I’m a teacher and a mum. I don’t need telling to keep away from children. I just wish it were possible.

Chapter 1

Harvey Horton smiled as he reached the last pile of papers on his desk. A career teacher, next term he was going to start a new job as Assistant Headmaster of the Cotham School in Clifton. It was, for him, a good step up, with the only downside being that his son already attended, starting second year next term.

I could start this story in the past…and I probably should avoid an unwanted history lesson. But, as the tired, worn out, never mentioned on Tik-Tok saying goes, those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Stating that, I feel as If we’re all flying around in a tornado that we knew was coming. We were warned but only so many people heard the sirens and acted against the storm.

Pete was the school gay boy. Well, actually he wasn’t. Gay that is, in the sense of happy etc. He was probably the gloomiest student in our high school. He made no secret of his liking boys though. It was so blatant that it had become a trope. We didn’t talk about gay people, we talked about pete people. We soon learned to live with his ooogling. Pete was definitely not a menace to anyone. He was the most non-aggressive person I have ever met. Besides, he was such a puny kid that the threat factor was in negative numbers.

Recently I blew the dust from this very early story and was happy to get reacquainted with the Mendoza family. Please note: I do not speak Spanish, but was helped by a friend from Málaga, Spain, who lived for a time in Buenos Aires. Any errors in translation or idioms were probably typos on my part and not necessarily her fault!

Chapter 4: Running with Sis

The room erupted in audible gasps and loud murmurs following my mother's declaration.

I was stunned. How could I not be? My mother had just admitted to witchcraft.

Unlike my brother, I spent all my days with her. I was always with her except those times she left home to help bring babies into this world and care for ailing mothers. I was the one person that knew she wasn't guilty of such a thing.
