This is an excerpt from an uncompleted novel. That work actually predates my Masks universe, but is being rewritten to fit into the history of those stories. The style is meant to recall the pulps of the Thirties.

There was no reply.

“Saffy? Are you there?”

There were some audible sounds from the other end of the line.

Eventually she replied.

“Don’t you love me?”

Now I was in a corner with no way out.

Rick kept his eyes closed and jumped as he felt Chris touch his chin
with his fingertips, but he almost swooned as he felt the lipstick slide
across his puckered lips. It felt soft and slippery and exciting and he
felt dizzy as Chris rolled the lipstick across his lips.

‘How does that feel, Rikkie? It looks so sweet on you. Open your eyes
now and come have a look.’

Apprehension is running rampant, with many of us sweating from the effort of considering the Colonel’s cryptic remarks, rather than from the heat which, so far today, isn’t too bad. The phone rings again and now I am taken from the room. I’m uncertain if I am more anxious or relieved. The sergeant shows me into a room with a large table and six men seated around one end of it. The Colonel is there, of course, as is the Major who left our waiting room with him. There is a one-star seated at the end of the table and three men in civilian clothes. The stakes seem to have been increased. I’m beginning to think I’m the one who has gone through the looking glass, I certainly don’t remember following a white rabbit with a watch.

After a rather stressful day, we all like to unwind a little.
After three stress free days to unwind while under 'doctors' orders to rest, I think we'd all go a little stir crazy, right?
..just imagine how badly Hannah's been handling it!..

Events unfold including but not limited to:
Pixies attack some left over vegetation,
a discussion is had about bunny/fish
(while it proceeds to eat a campfire)
and Hannah threatens to give a career soldier a blue-rinse perm!

Admit it, ya'll have missed the craziness, right?

It was a beautiful spring day--April first, to be precise, and I was once again acting in my role of Dungeon Master. Rick dragged himself off to his room and sat on the floor with his back against the bed and his arms wrapped around his knees. He felt so confused he almost couldn't function properly. He knew that one part of him wanted to go, and another was terrified about what might happen. He was frightened by the strength of his own feelings, and the fear of embarrassment, or even worse, humiliation, was never far away from him. He looked at his watch, 25 minutes had passed and he needed to make a decision.

"Yeah!" shouted Hickham, raising his arms and shaking his fists as the results from the election returns continued to come in. Responding cheers rang through the Structural Party hall. Objectively, Great Britain hadn't done badly in the Shilmek War, but the events had unnerved enough people to result in a vote of no confidence in the previous government and a call for elections. "Another win for our side!"

The party leader was a big man, much - but not all - of his size coming from a large amount of fat.

With a bit of trepidation, I sent off the application for my new passport the following day after a quick trip to my lawyers.

When I’d come into all that money, I invested some of it in the shop and also just under £10M in a number of properties in and around the city. Property in Bath is really expensive. I employed a Solicitor to manage the properties on my behalf through a company I set up called ‘Safnis Properties Ltd’.

My impromptu visit to my Lawyers that day was to formally change my name to Fran from Francis.

"You'll notice, though, that they're keeping their distance," said Energia. "That's an unspoken rule; if folks come out here that means they want privacy, and that means they get it. That includes folks keeping their distance, too. It's sort of a school tradition. So, what's going on?"
