Thirteen year-old Taylor Landt’s step-mother believes that he should be the next great football player for the high school he’ll be attending in the fall. Having a dad who is an accomplished professional linebacker, and growing up surrounded by professional football coaches and players should all but guarantee his ability to dominate on the field. Unfortunately he hates playing football, and knows his height and build will never allow him to be successful at the sport. Faced with an obsessive step-mother who ignores his obvious talents in other areas but instead thinks he is a blight on his father’s reputation, Taylor does the unthinkable and moves to Ohio to live with his mother who abandoned their family and left him with his father eight years ago.

Soon after his arrival, Taylor discovers there’s more to his inability to follow in his fathers’ footsteps than just his height. Will it be possible for him to make friends in a new town in the middle of nowhere outside the shadow of his dad's fame? Will Taylor be able to finally make peace with his mother who abandoned them all those years ago? And how long can he keep his secrets to himself?

My wedding with my Daddy.

Like all my girlfriends I had dreamed of my perfect wedding for years. I had envisioned every detail down to the way I wanted the rice done on platters.

There was the adult luncheon with the real antique white china. The full utensils for a 7 course meal even though my future husband and I could only afford soup salad and regular meal, fancy yes but not that expensive. I wore the cutest satin skirt suit that showed off all my curves to the best detail. It was in white of course.

Chapter 3

Ravencrest University-

The young man waiting outside of her class room smiled at Dr. Angela Bernacci. She was flattered at the attention. He was well built, with short, dark hair, she noted, and his smile was quite attractive. She rarely had such an attractive man take an interest in her class, and she wondered if he was going to be another “Indiana Jones” wannabe. She tried to make sure her students knew up front that Geology and Archeology were rarely as romantic or exciting as the movies portrayed.

Chapter 47

I get things ready and I open about four cans of the chic-peas and Rayne’s looking in them as I wash them off in a strainer. It’s kind of cute really she looks so dubious of the whole thing. I grab a big soup pot and the food processor and in the pot I first add some chopped onion and oil and garlic and get that going. I chop some celery and carrots next and they go in and they need some time to cook down so I peel a couple of potatoes and dice them up and the chop up some bacon. Once the celery and carrots are mostly cooked the potatoes go in and I microwave the bacon on a plate in the microwave. I add the bacon fat to the pot seeing as there’s not that much of it from five slices and I reserve the crispy bacon…

Sigh…Rayne’s already into the bacon.

I swear I can hear my Mom’s voice in my head talking about Dad.

~If you need one pound of bacon for something you really, really should cook two. ~

Part One of Ten

Synopsis:They say that when you die, you get to see everything that has and will happen to people in your life, but what would you do if you saw something that you couldn’t go on to the afterlife knowing, would you try to make your way back and find some way to stop it? This is a story of how one soul dying helps another one to start living, and saving some other souls along the way.

Sarah Carerra - 3.20 - Video Music Awards

"We are here to present the award for Best Pop Video," Kristy said into the microphone. "The nominees are..." I watched, mesmerized, as scenes from my own music video were broadcasting. "Sarah Carerra," the voice said one last time. "'You Can't Hurt Me'."

I wept tears being called names that hit home,my eyes were red and wet.
But I know your out there waiting I just have not got to you yet.
I wish this pain would fade away to cleanse my soul I hope,
for I don't want to be like others dangling from a rope.
I hear your call its very faint and I look from whence it came.
My eyes don't see you just right now so I run screaming your name.
I am here! I am here! my new name I am scared to say

We pulled into the garage at Tim’s house, still feeling the rush from the vision we'd shared. I felt so relaxed and stress-free. I’m glad we were at his parent’s place, because I had a feeling that as good as I felt, and as close as my heart was to Tim, I might do something I could regret later.

I just sit there like that with Rayne for a while just being us and taking that time to soak in the world and love that I’m leaning on her and love this place that we’re at right now. I love the effect it’s having on her, I can literally feel her decompressing and unwinding. I get that. I think it’s easy to get, just try and think when the last time you sat, just sat outside with a coffee or a tea and just spend thirty minutes to yourself.

Chapter 18 — Publish and be damned!

Wild Magic 45

I’d had a particularly difficult day. It’s really hard to explain, but I’ve been working with my understanding of these new perceptions. Sometimes it’s a strain, and it gives me a nasty headache. It wasn’t going to be hard to get rid of (I hoped), I just had to meditate for a while and let my body deal with the pain.

Chapter 38

You know there are times when you know without a shadow of a doubt when someone’s in love with you. I wake up in bed with Alex and I know it so deep I’m having one of my Ow my heart moments right off the bat.

I cried, I cried all the little kid tears that we hide away in real life. I lost my Dad and my life became this goddamned horror show. But really…mostly because I was really scared to death to…I never got to mourn him.

I like this as sort of tired as I am I really like this. Rayne’s kissing me and I’m kissing her and she’s on top straddling me. I mean it’s damn sexy as anything but it’s sort of not guy and girl sexual. She’s straddling my waist and her bottom is sort of resting on the top part of my pubic bone and she’s almost got that seal that girl get like that…the way she just sort of dovetailed to me.

Her hands are running over me and touching me…I like that, I like the intimacy of being touched and I go with it.

I can feel it…

The crowd…the cheering them just as caught up in this as we are…waves of sound…of life washing over us from the crowd and I can feel it…

Everything…

It’s like a rock movie, and almost a slow motion scene where I grab the guitar, settle her against me and turn to face the crowd.

Step up to them.

Start playing the rhythm, Kimmie’s instantly there with the drums and the crowd’s singing even before I am!

“Na, na, na, na, na, na, na!”
“Na, na, na, na, na, na!”
“Na, na, na, na, na, na, na!”

Trina nodded. “Like I said before, I’m still not ready for Trina to be exposed to the rest of the school like, officially.” She sighed. “Sometimes it still feels like Trina’s taking over my life.”

I couldn’t take it anymore, and finally pulled her into a hug. “Trina, there’s something I have to tell you. I know exactly what you’re going through because … Because I went through it last summer. The reason I was out for surgery is … because I was having GRS.” I frowned. Trina’s eyes widened and her jaw slackened. Annabell just smiled a soft, reassuring smile.

“You’re... You weren’t born a... I mean...” she fumbled, utterly shocked. I nodded.

My Summer In Wonderland

INTRODUCTION

This is the first of four interrelated recollections by a man in the late summer of life, recalling the events of some unusual summers, and the members of the female persuasion who made them so unusual and worth remembering.

An Obvious Girl - Part 1 of 7

Recently I blew the dust from this very early story and was happy to get reacquainted with the Mendoza family. Please note: I do not speak Spanish, but was helped by a friend from Málaga, Spain, who lived for a time in Buenos Aires. Any errors in translation or idioms were probably typos on my part and not necessarily her fault!
