Chapter 49: 368-378 CE: The Rat Patrol

One thing Raben practiced and insisted upon was, to the best that circumstances allowed, to never order someone to do things. He’d ask them to do something, often asking them to please do what he requested. He also made a point of thanking then for doing what he asked. In point of fact he made it a point to thank people for doing their jobs, publicly praising their actions. When it became necessary to reprimand someone, it was normally done gently and in private, with encouragement to do better. Only when a point needed to be driven home was a transgressor publicly disciplined. Treating people with kindness and respect cemented the Clan Corvo’s cohesiveness.

The weekend before thanksgiving, found me trotting down the sidewalk through the predawn darkness. Benton was undergoing something of a Indian summer, along with the rest of central Mississippi. The hard killing frost of late October, had been replaced with warm, almost early spring weather.

Since his childhood Al was different, not like other boys, and constantly surrounded by the bunch of girls he didn’t fancy them but rather preferred to be one of them. Now as FBI agent Al had an emergency wish in his pocket, though it was for emergency and not for desire of whole life.

“So is that everything we need?” Susan was asking.

I put the tapes and the square back where I found them, while Autumn went over and looked at the list Susan had in her hand. Her cheeks were still a little flushed, and there was dust in her hair and on the seat of her pants. “Are these the miscellaneous flats?”

Charlie had his doubts but he couldn’t deny that Shelley was trying to make amends for her affair. It had been a week since he had agreed to give her a second chance and he had enjoyed waking up to breakfast in bed every morning since. As he sipped at his orange juice he thought back over yesterday’s conversation and the document that he had signed.

Shelley had come into the room clutching two documents and asked if they could talk, naturally Charlie said yes.

Chapter 48: 365-368 CE: Earthquake Orphans and Widows

A massive earthquake {estimated 8+} occurred at about sunrise with an epicenter near Crete. The earthquake caused an uplift of 30 feet on the southwest corner of the island tapering to no uplift 30 miles east. Nearly every town on the island was destroyed. What had been the coast was now well above the water line. Tremors of the earthquake were felt in North Africa, Egypt, Anatolia, through out Greece and the Aegean Islands and even Italy. It caused widespread destruction in central and southern Greece. Worse was the resultant tsunami that struck Libya, Egypt, Cyprus, Sicily, and Italy.

Sorry for the long gap. I had trouble with this chapter, and it isn’t one of my best. But when I finished it the next chapter or two came to me, and thus will be written sooner: Dawn

So, I was sure I posted this here before now. Then I realized I didn't see it on my list, so here it is again.

For the record, this is set in the Vagrants universe, and is a story of a sister ship to the Magellan. It also gives a few more hints on what happened to the Earth.
