The Wolf, The Owl, And The Cheshire Part 4

Printer-friendly version

Cheshire runs as fast as she can with two hunters on her heels. She wasn’t as fast as she used to be ducking and dodging the tree limbs and roots. “Come on, just a little further.”

The two hunters chasing Cheshire fire at her and barely miss her. The bullet hit the tree limb right above her head. He goes to fire again and suddenly is hanging upside down by his feet. The other hunter that had been chasing Cheshire runs right by him. A grin appears on his face.

He knew he wouldn’t fall for a trick like that. He brings his gun up and gets a perfect sight of Cheshire. “Say goodnight, bitch.”

Just as he says those words, a thick tree limb swings down and hits him right in the chest. Lifting him off the ground and right into a tree with spikes poking down. The spikes go through his chest, as he hangs there.

“Two down, and several more to go.” Jack was keeping a lookout.

The other hunters that were tracking them were hanging back to see how these two did. Nick strips the one with the spikes going through his chest of everything he has. Afterward, he pulls him down and covers him up.

As for the other one hanging by his ankles. Cheshire walks over to him “Now, we are going to have a little talk, or I’m going to take this knife of yours and slit your throat wide open.” Cheshire pulls the knife from the Hunter’s belt.

The guy just smiles at Cheshire “I’m not telling you anything bitch.”

“Oh, we’ll see about that.” As Cheshire goes to work.

By the time Nick and Jack make their way back to Cheshire. She is covered in blood from skinning a piece of flesh from the guy’s chest.

“Someone had some fun.” Nick looks at Cheshire with a smile on his face.

Cheshire looks at Jack and Nick “We’re heading into an ambush, guys. They are waiting for us to show up and it's not just a handful of people either. It’s everyone we have ever pissed off.”

“That’s a lot of people.” Nick knew there were a bunch of people they have pissed off.

“I wonder what Sataria offered them?” Cheshire looks at Jack and Nick for an answer.

“Who knows, but she is capable of doing all sorts of things.” Nick knew how dangerous Sataria could be.

“Jack, what is Sataria capable of?” Cheshire looks at her oldest friend.

“She’s got the powers of a Jinni.” Jack knew Sataria was trapped and made a bargain with a jinni.

“Wait a minute, how can she have the powers of a jinni?” Cheshire knew a little bit about Middle Eastern spirits and such.

“According to Nancy’s research. She made a deal with a Djinn and was granted the ability to grant one wish to a person. The wish has stipulations, but things like being immortal or having their youth restored aren’t beyond what she can grant.” Jack knew from experience.

“I’m starting to hate this woman.” Cheshire couldn’t wait until she got her original body back. She was going to make this woman pay.

“That’s probably why she did what she did to us. She knew the abilities each of us were given, would be able to counter her abilities.” Nick figures that was the reason they were turned into the young women they were.

“That’s if what she told us is true. Remember, Sataria doesn’t like us.” Jack knew the grudge Sataria could hold.

“If she doesn’t honor her word, I’m going to get some major retribution from her.” Cheshire was going to make this woman pay and she didn’t care how powerful or the fact Sataria couldn’t die. She’ll find a way to make the bitch pay.

“Well, we better hide this one, before we leave.” Cheshire cuts down the hunter she tortured.

Nick and Jack help her hide the body and clean up the area of any blood from the person. Afterward, they gather up everything they took from the two hunters. They head deeper into the island but take a different route than anyone would guess.

When it starts getting dark, they take to the trees. Luckily, they managed to find some food on the two hunters. It wasn’t much, but it would sustain them throughout the night.

“I’ll take the first watch. Go ahead and get some sleep.” Jack looks towards Nick and Cheshire.

“Don’t be a hero, Jack.” Nick makes himself comfortable.

“I’ll try.” Jack bites into the piece of jerky the hunter had in his pouch.

While Cheshire and Nick slept, Jack listened to the jungle. It was a different environment, compared to his ranch. He hated the fact he couldn’t feel his wolves. They have always been part of him. He hopes his wife, children, and grandchildren are doing okay. He knew they would be searching for him.

He wonders if Rae’s crystal sword could kill Sataria. He knew the sword wasn’t from this word and it had magical properties that were far ahead of anything Sataria had ever encountered. He leans back against the tree trunk and thinks about it.

The jungle was dark and was impeding the other hunters' search looking for their other comrades. Frederick and Allan were crazy thinking they could kill the Cheshire and the Wolf by themselves. They should have stuck to the plan.

“Sir, we can’t find their bodies anywhere.” One of the natives who lives on another island looks at the man holding his life in his hands.

“Make camp. We’ll find them in the morning.” Denys was frustrated they were being outsmarted by three teenage girls.

“He can’t wait to find them and enjoy doing all sorts of things to their youthful bodies.”
