The Wolf, The Owl, And The Cheshire Part 6

Printer-friendly version

Unknown, South Pacific Island:
Nick looks over where Cheshire and Jack are sleeping. He knew the two of them were lightly sleeping. They had managed to tear the sleeves off the jumpsuits they were forced to wear. All the weapons they took had been reloaded. Each weapon had three reloads to it. After that, they were shit out of luck.

With the other supplies they took, they managed to make a crude stew. Cheshire found some edible plants and a few lizards they could eat. Jack’s shoulder was bandaged up with what first aid gear these hunters had brought with them.

The satellite phones and GPS units were putting them about halfway to the temple in the middle of the island. The sat phones were encrypted, so it did them no good to call their families to let them know where they were or that they were safe. He takes a swig from one of the canteens they removed from the hunters.

It was lucky they found clean fresh water nearby. They had refreshed their water supply and picked some fruits and plants they could eat. The hair on Nick’s neck stands on end and the next thing he knows, one of the traps they set. Sprung to life, with a figure hanging upside down from the rope.

Before the person could cut themselves down. Nick uses the makeshift crossbow Jack had managed to build from items he found. He shoots the person with the crossbow and shakes lightly shakes Jack lightly.

“Hey, we caught a fish. Cover me.” Nick moves silently over to the dead person and lowers them down to the ground.

Jack watches the jungle for any signs of movement. One of the hunters had a pair of binoculars on him that was capable of seeing at night. He sees no movement as Nick lowers the body and covers it. He knew Nick was resetting the trap for their next victim.

“He didn’t have much on him for gear.” Nick shows all the gear the guy had on him.

The fellow had a wrist-mounted computer system that had a map of the island on it. It showed several locations of red dots.

“Now, we know areas we should avoid.” Nick was looking at the map.

“What are you two talking about?” Cheshire had heard Nick and Jack talking.

“We had a visit by one of Sataria’s contestants,” Nick answers for Jack.

“Oh? So, what did we get off this one?” Cheshire was curious.

“Some simple weapons and a wrist-mounted computer with a map and locations of several people.”

“Are we going to avoid them, or take the fight to them?” Cheshire looks at Jack for an answer.

“Avoid for now. There are far too many people for us to take down. I think it might be better if we lure them into a trap, and take out a large amount of them then.” Jack felt they would have better odds doing that.

“It would eliminate a large group of people.” Nick liked the idea.

“True, so who is going to be the bait?” Cheshire looks at her companions.

“Why the person who used to be a track star in high school.” Jack smiles at Cheshire.

“I was afraid you were going to say that.” Cheshire knew even with the body she had now, she was not as fast as she used to be.

“Don’t worry, Ches. I’m going to be bait as well. We need to draw a lot of people in, to make this plan work.” Jack wanted to pull in the hunters.

“Let’s locate where we want this shindig to take place.” Nick takes the map out that they took off one of the other killers and looks for a perfect place to arrange the shindig.

Jack’s Ranch, Montana:
Haylee was sitting out on the front porch getting some sunshine. She’s been cooped up in her bedroom recovering from the parasite that had managed to get into her body. She was slowly recovering, but she was still feeling weak. As she sat in her grandmother’s rocking chair. She notices that the wolves are distracted. Especially Chaos. He was more agitated than normal.

“What’s wrong, Chaos? Do you miss Grandpa?” Haylee knew there was a special bond between Chaos and her grandfather.

Chaos growls softly at Haylee. When one of his sons or another wolf got close to him, he snapped at them. Something was wrong and he didn’t like it.

Haylee opens up her gifts that her aunt Rae has been teaching her to use and concentrate on Chaos She could feel how he felt disconnected from her grandfather and agitated as well. Something was interfering with his link to Jack.

Haylee knew something was going on because her mother was meeting up with her aunt Gina and aunt Tizzy. The whole house was on full alert. She noticed that their neighbors were patrolling closer to the property as well. The members of their pack didn’t like encountering her father’s wolves. Which, she thought was weird. They were werewolves and the wolves on their property were natural wolves. Sure, they were bigger than normal wolves, it was just odd the pack that lived next to them feared their wolves.

Rennie comes walking out of the house with a Nutty Buddy ice cream cone in her hand. She loved them and a few others “Here you go, Haylee.” As she hands Haylee one.

“Thanks, Rennie.” Haylee accepts it and unwraps it.

Rennie sits in her grandfather’s rocking chair and rocks back and forth, slowly. She liked playing and being around Haylee. She also liked Catori as well. They had fun when they were horseback riding and helping the ranch hands with the buffalos.

“Grandma thought you might like one.” Rennie knew Haylee was still recovering from whatever made her sick.

“Grandma always knows what makes us happy. Where are your mom and dad?” Haylee knew they left the ranch last night.

“Don’t know, but Grandma said they should be back in a few days.” Rennie knew her parents had left while she was asleep.

“There goes Trigger.” Rennie spotted Trigger being chased after by one of her grandfather’s wolves.

“She should know better than to challenge Grandpa’s wolves.” Haylee knew Trigger loved teasing and playing with the bigger wolves. She was a normal wolf, compared to the others.

Rennie looks at Haylee “I overhead Grandma talking with Aunt Anika on the phone. She said that Grandpa is missing.”

“That’s impossible. No one would be dumb enough to go after Grandpa.” Haylee couldn’t believe it.

“It’s not just Grandpa either. Aunt Cheshire and Grandpa’s friend Nick are missing as well.” Rennie was surprised when she heard her grandpa was missing.

“That would explain why Mom and Aunt Gina are getting together in California. They took Arabella and Rebecca with them. Misty is staying at home with her father and the boys.”

“Do you think Grandpa and Aunt Cheshire will be okay?” Rennie looks at Haylee since she has been with their grandpa the longest.

“They will be okay. Grandpa and Aunt Cheshire are too tough to die and too mean to let anyone put them down.” Haylee knew her grandpa and aunt were tough people.

"I hope so." Rennie didn't want to loose her grandpa. She has already lost to many people already.
